Hello and welcome to Kids in the Kitchen for this week.
We have a very special edition this week because it’s World Book Day.
Generally on World book day the kids dress up as a character from their favourite book. Last year we had the Gruffalo’s Child and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. This year, Boo is going to be Little Red Riding Hood.
Before I get on to this weeks recipe I’d like to say thank you to those who joined up in my linky last week.
J helped his mum on Rambling Through Parenthood to make a delicious nutella layered banana cake.
What could be nicer than chocolate covered fruit? See how D and Miss T get one with the chocolate fondeu on the Beesley Buzz.
There is also lots of yummy fruit over on Mummy Zen when the little ones get to work making fruit kebabs and Mummy Zen gives a delicious Strawberry, Apple and Almond Crumble.
Who could resist Vanilla Shortbread covered in chocolate loving prepared by Potato and Baked Potato Mummy?
Apple And Blackberry Shortcake.
Ingredients
- 185 g unsalted butter
- 185g caster sugar
- 1 egg
- 275g plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Can of apple and blackberry fruit filling
Method
We then spread the fruit filling over the first layer leaving a little gap around the edge.
Then we lightly rolled the other half of the dough and put it on top of the fruit.
Finally we brushed the top of the shortcake with a little water and sprinkled on some sugar before putting into the oven gas mark 4/ 180C for 35 minutes.
what a great recipe idea and one that can be done all year round with the tinned fruit. I've got my post ready this week – just need to add the photos and will link up. x
