Send a Card to a Friend Day

Don’t you think it’s nice when you get something in the mail that’s not a bill? Maybe a card or a letter? You may think why, when you can keep in touch by Social Media or Text, or maybe call each other, but there is something special about a letter received in the post, even if you have to wait that little longer for your reply.

These days it seems that ‘snail mail’ (mail delivered in the post) is left for bills and circulars which is very sad. I spent my younger days enjoying my penpal relationships. I had friends all over the country and even further afield. I would write down my letter, pop it in the post and then wait for a couple of weeks for a reply. Some of my long distance friendships dwindled away quite quickly, others I wrote to for several years. I used to love receiving my letters and always made sure I was settled down cosy before opening and reading them.

Besides my penpals, I would also write letters to my friends. They mostly lived on the same street so I could pop my letters through the door without a stamp. It was still special though we could tell each other how much fun we’d had together and what we were looking forward to most when we got together again. Then later on I would write letters to my boyfriend on days he couldn’t get over to see me. These were days when mobiles and internet did not exist, and if I wanted to speak to him on the phone I’d have to walk to the corner and use the payphone. Of course, he would write to me too and yes, I had a stack of love letters.

If you feel you need a break from the digital age why don’t try something different and send a card or letter to a friend or loved one.

February 7th is Send a Card to a Friend Day, which is the perfect opportunity to grab your pen and write a lovely note to someone special in your life. Over on Hallmark they have a lovely range of friendship cards that would be perfect.

a selection of friendship cards from Hallmark

So, what would you write on your card? Well, sometimes it’s easier to write words down than to say them so why not write something straight from  your heart. Tell them how you feel, tell them you are so happy they are in your life. Talk to them about the things you love doing together, or even invite them for  a day or evening out. Give them a boost, let them know how great you think they are. I’m sure that whatever  you say they will be thrilled to receive your card.

Do you want to include something else, a little gift maybe? It could be something real simple like a bag of sweets with a charming note, like this.

a bag of sweets with a sticker saying, life is sweeter with friends

Or maybe a little momento that lets them know how you feel about your friendship, like this.

a ceramic heart with the text, people walk through our lives but only true friends leave footprints on our hearts
Or if you like to catch up with a brew, why not send a token tea bag with a lovely message.
a teabag in a little bag with the words, love is brewing the ultimate gossip tea for best friends catching up

Or even a small soft toy, like an Itty Bitty, there are loads to choose from and I’m sure you could find one that reflects your friendship.

Would you send a card or a letter to a friend? What would you say?

Win a Beautiful Piece of Personalised Jewellery from Kaya Jewellery – review and competition

I was asked if I’d like to review a piece from Kaya Jewellery and couldn’t wait to get choosing. I took special care in picking out the piece I wanted and now I can offer you the same opportunity too. Read on for a fabulous competition where you can win a £40 gift voucher to spend at Kaya Jewellery.

I love how Kaya Jewellery focus on the special bond between a mother and her children and you can see it here in the Mother and Daughter collection. There is also a selection for son’s too, even brother and sister sets, how charming is that.
With having three children I did think it would be difficult to choose but then I remembered that Star turns thirteen this year. Yes, my baby is going to be a teenager! To mark this special occasion I have chosen a beautiful necklace just for her. I remember when I turned thirteen my Mum bought me a silver necklace, it was a little Dusty Bin from the television show 321. So, maybe this can become a family tradition?
I choose to call Star her nickname because that’s what she is, a shining star. With all she’s been through already in her life she is always smiling and making the best of things, and she refuses to change for anyone. So the first thing I looked for was a star and I found a pretty star necklace. Next I was able to add a pretty pink swarovski pearl before choosing what to engrave. On the front I have had her first name and on the back ‘our star.’
The necklace arrived within a couple of days and was packaged in a pretty box. It was really beautiful and I’m so glad I chose it. I’m sure that Star is going to love it too.

So Funny I Pee’d my Pants!

Sorry if you are expecting something really funny in this post, the simple truth is, incontinence isn’t funny at all. Not when a cough, sneeze or even a giggle can cause you to have a ‘whoops’ moment. It can happen to any woman too (And some men) it doesn’t matter if you are young, old, fat, slim, fit, unhealthy or pregnant.
There are ways to improve your bladder, exercise, drinking more water and so on. But even so, there are always times when your bladder is under stress. And you have to have a really strong bladder to withstand a round of sneezing. I have a little saying, ‘Sneeze three times in a row and it’s really time to ‘go’.’

I’m disabled and partially paralysed. I need a little extra protection and up until now I’ve used pads. Now I have had the chance to review Giggle Knickers and I’d like to share what I think of them.

Giggle Knickers are discreet, eco friendly, washable knickers with added protection. Their claim is to be a 21st Century Solution for 21st Century Women.

Comfort

Giggle Knickers are just like normal pants. They have extra protection fitted in so are a little more bulkier in the gusset area. However, they feel as comfortable as wearing normal pants and you don’t get any curling or sticky bits sticking where it shouldn’t be, and nothing moves around. The Giggle Knickers I have had a lovely soft thick elastic trim which didn’t cut in and felt really comfortable.

Size

Giggle Knickers come in sizes XS to XL which in UK sizes ranges from size 4 to 18. I think they could go a little higher for the bigger women. Currently there is only one style of Giggle Knickers but there are more on the way, from shorties to thongs. They are inviting people to vote on which comes next on their website.

Security

Giggle Knickers have a 4 layer core, after a comfortable cotton layer to keep your skin safe, the first is a layer that keeps you dry, the second layer pulls liquid away, the third layer holds the liquid without pooling and the fourth layer stops your clothes from getting damp. After trying them I can honestly say I felt totally dry at the end of the day. They hold around six teaspoons full of liquid, so great for those little accidents. They are not recommended for people with serious incontinence issues.

Cost

Giggle Knickers are £15.99 (currently on offer for £12.99) but I’ll go by the original price. Lets say you just have two pairs then that will cost you £31.98. For someone like me I’d probably need at least four pairs which work out at £63.96. I’ve worked out that in a year the amount of pads I would normally use would cost about the same.

Cost to Environment

It’s estimated that two billion sanitary products are flushed down Britain’s toilets every year. Even if you don’t flush it away the amount of products produced in this Country alone is huge and it all has to go somewhere. Giggle Knickers are made to be eco-friendly. They can be washed and re-used and even  come in recycled and recyclable packaging.

Even More

Giggle Knickers even support the Free a Girl Movement and for every purchase they donate 20p to the charity as well as raise awareness.

Free a Girl India aims to fight against human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of children. We do this by raising awareness about the problem of child prostitution and the impunity of offenders of child prostitution. We believe there is a need to change the conversation, to mobilise society to rally behind the girls that have fallen victim to this crime, and to demand justice. It is important to break the silence in many countries about child prostitution and the need to prosecute the offenders. Find out more.

Conclusion

Overall, I think I’m sold. I was most taken aback by how utterly comfortable these knickers were, they didn’t cut in or ride down. I felt totally protected too from those little ooops moments. There was no evidence of any accidents at the end of the day, the knickers still felt comfortable and dry. The shape size and colour were exactly as I would have chosen, but it’s good to know that there are more designs on the way. They are reasonably priced for a pair of knickers, maybe a little more expensive than ones I would normally buy but considering that they are so much more than a normal pair of knickers they are definitely value for money. Plus, I wouldn’t need to buy any more pads.

Disclosure: I was sent a pair of Giggle Knickers for free in return for my honest opinion. Please see my notes below on positive reviews.

Healthy Waffles (or maybe not!)

I was sent a Nutri Snack Waffle Stick Maker and so far I’m really happy with it. It’s fairly small so easy to store away in the cupboard and lit makes fabulous delicious waffles.

The Nutri Snack Waffle Stick Maker is pushed as a healthy snack maker and comes with a recipe book full of healthy alternatives to the sweet and sugary waffles that you are probably more familiar with. You can make all sorts of waffles with vegetables, fruits and because you are making sticks rather than full size waffles they are a much healthier snack.

I’ve never had a waffle maker and my kids are more familiar with potato waffles rather than these flour based ones and it was something new to try. So, I pushed the healthy recipes aside for the moment and looked up a classic waffle recipe to try.

The batter was whisked up in a whizz and I started filling up my waffle stick maker.

Just a few minutes later and I was rewarded with these golden and crispy waffle sticks. The kids loved them! Everybody loved them and they soon started raiding the cupboards for things to dip them in. I’d like to tell you here that they were healthy dips but I’m afraid the favourites where chocolate spread, golden syrup and maple syrup!

There are so many waffle recipes to try and the waffle maker is so quick and easy to use, I’m thinking it’s going to be our favourite snack maker.

Here are a few details about the Nutri Snack Waffle Maker.

✅ NUTRITIOUS WAFFLE STICK MAKER: This Waffle Stick Maker by Nutri Snack makes perfectly sized treats without sticking to the cooking plates. The non-stick cooking plates make it easy to use & clean.
✅ POWER AND READY LIGHT INDICATOR: The convenient light indicator shows when the waffle machine has reached the ideal temperature for starting to cook healthy sized treats. Try the included recipes!
✅ AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL: The automatic temperature control and the light indicator tells you when you are ready to go. Cook 6 amazing waffle fingers for your breakfast or just as a snack.
✅ NON-STICK COATING PLATES: The deep cooking plates with non-stick coating cook fluffy waffle sticks to perfection. Cook up to 6 waffle fingers at once. Perfect for themed parties or birthdays.
✅ HEALTHY SNACK: You can always have a healthy nutrtious snack such as low calorie falafel sticks, diary/gluten-free chocolate waffles or nutty protein waffles – just discover your favorite recipe.

Shhh! Don’t Wake Dad – Review and Give Away

We’ve been reviewing the game Shhh! Don’t Wake Dad and I’m sure it will be a great Christmas present. We do love our board games in this house and this one is a great addition. If you’d like to win a game yourself then why don’t you enter my give away at the end of this post?

Now, who snores? I know I do, but the winner in our house has to be Dad! In this game you have to get the treats without waking the snoring Dad. So just like real life then.

In the game, Dad is sleeping in the middle of the board, snoring away as usual. The hungry kids have to make their way from their beds along the hazardous route to the fridge to get to the chocolate cake, all without waking Dad.

PLAYING THE GAME

Players are all dealt the same number of cards and take it in turns to spin the spinner.  Then, against the constant cacophony of Dad’s electronic snoring sounds (which give everyone the giggles!), they travel around the board.  Most of the spaces on which they land feature a picture, and if the player already holds the card that matches the image, they are safe.  But if not, they must take a deep breath and press Dad’s alarm clock down the number of times indicated on the space…

If Dad stays asleep, it’s “Phew” – and the game continues.  But if he wakes up, the player is sent back to their slippers, to begin the journey again.  But he or she does at least get to keep that hazard card, which will protect them should they confront that hazard again later in the game.

Dad is then settled back down to sleep…  Play continues, with plenty more twists and turns for everyone to negotiate along the way. Finally, one of them arrives in the kitchen. Here, the perils of Dad’s alarm clock have to be faced one last time…

The player presses the clock down…  Everyone holds their breath…
IF DAD DOESN’T WAKE, the player has reached that delicious
slice of cake – AND WON THE GAME!

This game is bound to be played over and over and would be a fantastic Christmas Present. If you would like to win a copy then please enter via the widget at the end of this post.

A little Note About Positive Reviews on Raisie Bay

A little Note About Positive Reviews on Raisie Bay

Some people only write reviews when things go wrong with products, which is good because it lets people know that there could be potential problems. I’ve also seen negative feedback with say things like, I had to return this item because the colour did not suit me…is this useful?

I write reviews on most items I buy because I like to give genuine feedback. If I have a genuine problem with a product I will write my review in the appropriate place.

I write reviews on my blog too, but they are mostly positive. Why? Because I only write reviews for the things I’ve loved. If I don’t love them I let the person who sent me them know with details why and then let them decided if they would rather me write a negative review or not write one at all. It’s always the latter.

This is my blog, my place and I’ll let you know about the things I love. If you want to find out what other people have hated about the product then you will need to look elsewhere.

My reviews may all be positive, but they are still genuine.
