Mister Maker Activities at Blackpool Sea Life Centre.

On our recent holiday to Blackpool we received complimentary tickets to the Sea Life Centre in return for my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

We arrived in Blackpool town centre at lunch time so stopped off for a bite to eat before entering the Sea Life Centre. As we already had tickets there was no waiting to get in. My kids were excited to get their Sea Life Explorer booklets and also excited to to collect all the pieces for a Mister Maker Activity to make at home in their little bags.

We had already told the kids that Mister Maker himself would not be there, but when asked to complete a survey of their visit at the end of the visit they all said it would have been more exciting if he was there. On the way around the Sea Life Centre though, they really didn’t give it a second thought.

Being in a wheelchair I wondered how difficult it would be getting around the Sea Life Centre but as they get a lot of pushchairs the place is really easy to navigate with wheels. It wasn’t particularly crowded in there, and apart from a couple of times I didn’t really feel as though I was in the way in my chair, or that I had difficulty in getting around which was really nice.

The kids were totally engrossed as soon as they entered. Star was keen to get over to the rock pool and touch a star fish. She said it felt cold and hard, but nice. I think she likes starfish, most of the other children there were not so enamoured  after touching them.

We haven’t been to a Sea Life Centre for quite a while now and the main thing I noticed was how my kids wanted to read EVERYTHING. I guess they learnt quite a lot from the visit.

We saw so many different sea creatures and we all had our favourites. I particularly loved the jellyfish, Star loved the starfish, Boo the seahorses, Little Man the sharks and rays and Daddy liked the piranha fish.

All stamps were collected on their passes and at the shop desk they were given medals for their hard work.

Then it was time for the Mister Maker activities and the kids were really keen to have a go. Star made a Shark and Boo and the Little Man made fish. Then Boo made a Ray too. They were sat around a table with a clear instruction sheet for each of the things they wanted to make. The helper was very good, sitting with them and helping them find what they needed and to put them together. She was particularly helpful with Star, I’m not sure if this was because she wanted to make something more complicated than the other two, or that she picked up that Star was the type of child who needed a little extra help. Either way, it was really nice of her and Star felt comfortable joining in. They all had just as much fun doing their arts and crafts as they did looking at all the sea life.

The Mister Maker activities are only available until 12th June, but my kids really enjoyed the activities and loved having something they had made themselves to take away, so it really is worth a visit in the next week or so if you can make it.
