My word this week is food. Now, don’t get me wrong, we do have food quite regularly in our house, but this week it’s been about the food.
First up, on Monday our food shopping which we have delivered at the same time every week, didn’t turn up! I phoned Sainsbury’s to find out what was going on and I was waiting for nearly an hour for them to answer. When I did get through I found out that they were having some major problems and a lot of deliveries had been cancelled, but my delivery was still on the van and would be delivered between 6-7pm. There was nothing for it, I had to order a take out. Well, actually, that’s not entirely true because we did have food, it’s just that I was so fed up about the shopping I couldn’t be bothered.
When the shopping finally arrived we found there was no frozen stuff so we had to go out shopping on Tuesday. We ended up buying a BBQ, I’ve told Hubby it can be his Father’s Day present. I don’t think he was overly impressed, I have just bought a present where he does all the cooking! It was a bargain at £29 though and I couldn’t believe how big it was when it was out of the box and put together. Of course then we had to add extra sausages and burgers to our shopping. The plan is for a BBQ this evening so fingers crossed the weather holds out.
I’ve spoken before on my blog about my Paleo diet, well, I have adapted it to suit me which means I’m not taking dairy or sugar, but I’ve had to give a little on the grains, although I am trying gluten free. This week I decided to follow the Summer Diet that came with my BBC Good Food magazine. It fits in perfectly with my diet already and I’ve found some really lovely recipes. Yesterday I had a delicious lime baked cod with a cucumber, peach, avocado and tomato salad, it was so tasty. Today I had a spelt flour pizza with spinach, blue cheese and walnuts, yummy.
Finally, this week it’s the BBC Good Food show at the Birmingham NEC. I was originally going on Thursday but I was suffering from a migraine hangover. Hopefully, I will be there today but if not then definitely the weekend which means the kids will be dragged along as well.
So that’s my foodie week. This weekend it’s Father’s Day so I’m planning on pushing the boat out with my attempt at a strawberry shortcake cheesecake that was shown on This Morning earlier this week. Before they even showed the recipe I could see it in the background and just ‘knew’ I had to make one.
I like the sound of the lime baked cod and delicious sounding salad. Yum. Always nice to try something new. I get so easily stuck in a rut when it comes to food. Annoying about the delivery, but getting the BBQ sounds like a silver lining. Hope the weather holds for you. #wotw
I am loving salads at the moment, I know about Paelo diet and not far from me is a restaurant all based on the Paelo ideology X #wotw
I'm sure the event will give you lots of lovely recipes to come home with. Having seen the odd photo of me on holiday last week makes me think I need to diet too. #WotW
What a faff with the shopping….I would have got a takeaway too.
Good luck! I hope the weather stays nice for a BBQ. We're planning to have one tomorrow.
The adapted diet sounds fab….I love the sound of the summer diet.
Have a great time at the Good Food show x

Food is such an essential need. I too follow a paleo diet and avoid sugar or dairy products. Wonderful post 🙂
