Last week I began this post and just couldn’t finish it. Things were not going well and being positive was far from my mind. We had a pretty awful week including arguments, emergency hospital visits and many tears. The stress levels were through the roof, which is a big achievement in our three story house! But even when things are bad, there are ways to keep positive.
Now things have settled a little and we have a plan to prevent (hopefully) future breakdowns like this and I can look back and reflect. The bad things will get better, I’m sure, so I’m going to keep working on them and now look at the good things about last week.
- The kids went back to school completely stress free and they all had a fabulous week
- I focused on getting ready for my consultant appointment (Tomorrow) and I know exactly what I’m going to tell him and what treatment I expect. There is a choice of treatments so I’m feeling positive.
- I had a gorgeous bouquet of flowers which, although they were for a review, they have really cheered me up with their lovely colours and beautiful fragrance
- On a day when I felt I was hitting rock bottom, I let my friends know and they sent me loads of love and support.
- I’ve been out twice, once with hubby and the other time with hubby and the kids. It always makes me feel better to get out of the house. ( I could say three times, but I’m focusing on the good things so the hospital visit doesn’t count.)
- I have my holiday voucher so I’m going to book next years summer holiday. I’ve already decided where we are going (South Devon) and we are going for a full week instead of a mid week break, and we are going in the Summer holiday instead of Whitson. (Although we do tend to have really nice weather at Whitson which is never guaranteed in summer.)
What do you do when life throws you lemons?
- Crochet. I like to make small things so I get my achievement sooner. I love amigurumi which is a Japanese term for small stuffed creatures.
- Colouring. I have a plethora of colouring books which meet my every need, I also have many pens and pencils but I do like pencils best.
- Reading. I have trouble reading because it gives me headaches and I tend to fall asleep, but a good book takes me away into another world and I love that. I’ve read nearly two books this past week.
- Baking. Although I do have trouble with this now I do still love to bake and really enjoyed making bread last week.
An awful week may have happened but it’s past now and today is a new day, today I managed to finish this post!

Bless you! Sending love and hugs. It sounds like you have been having a rough time.
Good luck with the consultants appointment…
I had a pretty rubbish week last week and had a delivery of flowers too for a review. They came just at the right time to cheer me up too x
Sorry you had such a rubbish week but it is great that you can find a few positives in there.
As for what do I do when life throws me lemons, I have just discovered some great podcasts. Like you, I love reading but occasionally get headaches. My vertigo over the last month or two has made reading difficult but I like to escape reality too. I have been listening to Serial – a weekly podcast covering a real life crime and looking at different aspects of the crime, Up and Vanished – again a weekly podcast covering a real life crime. I have also been following Michelle Reeves podcast – Sparkle on Mama – which has regular podcasts offering tips on being productive and being kind to ourselves. All worth a listen. I put them on as I cook dinner, mow the lawn, clean the bathroom, etc. Hope this week is kinder to you x
So useful to think about the positives even when it's hard to because things are tough. It's so good for my mental health to think about this. Thanks so much for the post #themmlinky
Our coping activities are very similar. I'm not very good at crochet though, but it doesn't stop me picking up the needles x
God luck with the consultants appointment its always good to focus on the positives, I am rubbish at crochet but the disaster of it would no doubt make me smile #mmbc
Glad you have the holiday planned now. Good luck for tomorrow, hope you can keep positive this week. Wish I had a magic wand for you xx
Great tips, to distract me like you know reading so that's really helps X #mmbc
I'm sorry to read of the past negatives that have happened. It's great that you are aware of the things that give you happiness and act as pick me ups in your life. I wonder whether listening to story books would work well instead of reading them. #MMBC
Oh Anne, I'm sorry to hear you had a rough week. Mine sounds a little like this too! I hope you got on well at your appointment.
I am learning to crochet, but I need a little more practice!
Thanks so much for sharing with #MMBC. Have a lovely weekend and see you next week xx
I'm sorry you had a crappy week, but look at you finding the positives!! And a holiday to look forward to is a wonderful thing. Thanks for linking up with #TheMMLinky x
I am so sorry for a bad week. It sounds very bad and it is good that you can even write the word positive, let alone be positive! I would say last week was rough for many…variations on a theme. I breathe, take a walk outside (with Gatsby if I am not at work), take pictures, and try to put things in perspective. Not much comfort in knowing someone, somewhere has it worse, but perspective is important a lot of the time. Stay strong, feel well and keep doing what you are doing. #blogcrush xoxo
I am so sorry to hear that you've had such a tough week. When I'm having a bad week, I like to list things that have gone well too – it helps me to find some balance – but it can be a really difficult thing. I also play music to help relax me and I it is a vent for my emotions. I hope that your appointment goes well and that this week is a lot better for you #blogcrush
(also just a friendly reminder to put the #blogcrush badge on this post. Thank you, lovely)
