This week has been focused around School.
Star has been having assessments, they seem to have them every term at her school and often there are classroom changes afterwards depending on the results. They could move to a higher class or down to a lower one. Star was incredibly nervous at the beginning of the week but as the week has gone on she has become more confident and feels happy with her progress. I’m happy because it boosts her confidence. I love it when she’s happy and getting on at school, I think the classroom change last term has helped a lot.
Boo is still working towards her SATS which is inciting so much anger in me. I really wish they’d just abolish the SATS, it’s way too much pressure on such young children. She is in year six so her results will determine where she starts in Secondary School but as I’ve just mentioned, they are assessed every term in Secondary School anyway! So, I’ll try not to get on my soapbox and start ranting here, I think SATS are purely to show how well the school is doing rather than the pupils. Hothousing the poor kids and making them think they have to work ten times harder to get good results really makes my blood boil. It’s not a true assessment of teaching or how well the children are doing.

The Little Man has been having so much trouble at school. Every day he’s in trouble for one thing or another and it’s been going on for a while. He’s been bullied in the playground which we talked to the school about and they promised to sort it. But his behaviour has become a serious issue and after talking to his teacher again they’ve suggested we get him some professional help. So I’ve made him an appointment with the GP to get a referral for a child psychologist. My poor Little Man, he’s as good as gold at home. I really can’t understand why he misbehaves so much at school.

I totally agree about Sats. There is so much pressure on them and I think the school is the only one who benefits from the results. I am sorry Little Man is having issues at school. I hope school are proactive and nip the bullying in the bud. Hopefully his behaviour at school will settle down when the bullies are stopped #wotw
I’m glad Star is doing well at school. It sounds like she has had a real boost in confidence.
Sending hugs. We had a chat about SATs at Ellie’s parents evening last night and for once there was no pressure. It made such a nice change. I will still be glad when they are over with though.

I hate sats and the added pressure put on kids. I don’t see the point really but that is just my my opinion. I know it’s a hard thing to say but it’s better that he misbehaves at school and gets the help rather than the other way round and he’s something will be done about it. Fingers crossed he gets some help X #wotw
It’s great that Star’s doing so well, sounds like she’s thriving there. SATs are frustrating, I agree, though I think each school handles them differently, which again is annoying! I hope your Little Man gets some support and you can get some answers, it must be very worrying for you especially when he’s so good at home x Thanks for sharing with #WotW
We’ve just had a bundle of practise books and a revision timetable sent home for SATs. I’m trying to take off the pressure and add a positive spin. Does anyone like SATs? It’s good to hear that Star is doing well and Little Man is on the path to getting some help. I hope it goes well.#wotw
We haven’t faced the SATs with our son yet – they’re a long way off in fact – but I totally agree with everything you said regarding them. And I’m so sorry to hear about your son & the bullying he is facing; this different side to him at school must be hard to hear about given that he is the total opposite at home. I hope he gets all the support needed with that #WotW
