Pumpkins
I know Halloween is over now but I just wanted to share a photo of the Pumpkins carved by my three lit up in the dark.
We went to the Pumpkin Parlour on Wednesday and carved our pumpkins surrounded by witches and a Dracula and to a spooky soundtrack.
Then on Halloween we put the pumpkins on the doorstep to let the locals know we were happy to accept Trick or Treaters. It’s a unwritten rule in our neighbourhood, if there are pumpkins or Halloween decorations it’s okay to call. Otherwise, they pass on by. It means the elderly people or those that don’t want to be disturbed don’t get any callers.
Halloween
The kid’s didn’t go out this Halloween. They had no interest in dressing up and calling from door to door for sweets they don’t really like. My kids are weird, they like certain types of lollipops and some chocolate, preferably with no filling. We gave out sweets up until about 8pm then they stopped calling. Boo was the main door answerer. She darted to the door whenever it was knocked and handed out sweets to the callers. She was so lovely, complimenting everyone on their outfits and wishing them a Happy Halloween. I just stood in the back ground and let her get on with it.
We had a scavenger hunt which I’d downloaded. I hid the things, mostly upstairs and the kids did the hunt by torchlight. I was surprised at how much they enjoyed it, but they were really quick and it wore me out quickly as I couldn’t keep up. The final prize was three tombstones which they had to find in the garden. I’d made them into cardboard boxes and filled them wtih their favourite chocolate.
Next up, Christmas!
I saw people complaining that Christmas ads started as soon as Halloween was over, but hey, it’s November and there are not that many paydays until Christmas, especially if you get paid Monthly! Time to get those presents sorted. September is way too early, October is early, but November…I don’t mind, bring on Christmas. Especially the 3rd of December when I’m taking the girls to see The Nutcracker for their first time. I can’t wait! Oh, and while I watch this I’m watching The Polar Express!
When do you start getting ready for Christmas?
That just sounds like the best Halloween ever Anne. Funnily enough my nieces and nephew also had a party at home rather than trick or treat outdoors this year. I can’t believe we’re into November already. Its definitely acceptable for Christmas mode to commence these next weeks always fly in!
we were going to watch some scary movies later but ended up playin Luigis Mansion instead 🙂
Love your carved pumpkins – they look great all lit up. We don’t tend to go trick or treating but I think most people around here tend to follow the unwritten rule of only going to houses that have pumpkins outside too.

It sounds like you did some enjoyably activities with your children and your pumpkins are really cool. I’m not a huge fan of Halloween myself but like you, as soon as it’s over I am in Christmas prep mode. I would love to see the Nutcracker and look forward to reading your thoughts on it. #MMBC
I’ve seen the Nutcracker before and it’s amazing, I can’t wait to see my girl’s reactions though.

I did lots of Christmas shopping last week while we were visiting relatives, it saved me having to buy postage and meant I could get them something that didn’t have to be fitted into a parcel.

Thankfully I don’t have too many relatives to buy for and the only ones that are not close do come up to visit in early December which means no postage 🙂
Good looking jack-o-lanterns! I was also a terrible pumpkin carver. Have a beautiful week – I’m already dreaming of Christmas but wait until after the US Thanksgiving to go crazy with decor. #MMBC
We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving like you in the US but it seems like you get two Christmas’ in two months!
Lovely pumpkins, well done! We didn’t go out trick or treating either, but we did go for a little walk via a graveyard and pub, and then did some scary face painting at home, so we did celebrate Halloween a little bit 🙂 x #MMBC

Yes, there is always someone who will eat the sweets the kids don’t want, I’m partial to those foam like jelly sweets and eldest daughter likes anything fizzy.
We have the same unwritten rule in our area.

I finally got rid of our pumpkins today, but noticed that next door still had theirs out.

I start buying the odd Christmas present from the end of October onwards, but I won’t have a proper think about presents until mid-November. We won’t put the tree up until mid-December. I have a particular dislike of Christmas starting early and I seem to be increasingly in the minority with that!
