Hello and welcome to the home of Word of the Week. A nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. The idea of the linky is to reflect back on your past week and share it with us. It’s great if you can sum it up in a word or phrase, hence giving us your Word of the Week. My word this week is ‘Home School’ and you can read more about that below.

MY WORD OF THE WEEK – Home School
Like Many people in the UK at the moment we are experiencing the joys and misfortunes of Home School. I know people feel differently but I’m so happy my children don’t have to go to school anymore. Not while Covid is so rife. The Little Man has been full time since September, but the girls have only been doing reduced hours in the SEND department. Their anxiety about school has been incredibly high.
Now, I have them all at home where we will be staying. Although we are planning some outside exercise when the weather allows and they are not tied up in home school lessons. We do not plan on meeting up or being with anyone else. We want to be isolated in our own bubble. My daughter goes back to work next week but she’s been vaccinated. That doesn’t mean she won’t be able to pass the virus on to us, but at least she will have some protection.
Home school this time around is different to anything I have experienced before (And I have a LOT of experience with home school.) My three children are responsible for attending lessons on Teams and joining in with a class which is produced by a teacher at their schools. They work independently without any input from me at all. (Unless the technology plays up and they need help.)
I know some people would rather have their children in school, but I’m happy having them home and they are learning which is good. We still have problems but so far things are not too bad and I hope they can improve as the kids get used to this way of learning for a while.

As much as I am hating the home schooling at the moment I am glad that the kids are at home and are safe. I am having to nag my youngest to get on with her work but she is doing OK once she gets going.
That is great news that your eldest daughter has been vaccinated. I hope her return to work goes well.

I’m glad home schooling is going well. Hope your daughter stays safe when she goes back to work. My two are okay with home learning but would rather be in school. I guess we’ll have to see how all this goes. We don’t go anywhere (well I do, I’m still working) I shall be glad when things can be a little more normal.

I’m glad this term is working out well for you. I know last term was a challenge. We have the same set up as you. I’ve used MS Teams at work for a few years. Funny to see the children on it all day! They prefer it when the whole lesson is on MS Teams, rather than being directed off to a video. Must be so hard for the teachers to teach online for hours on end, so I understand why they do it. I love having the children home and we seem to have settled into a routine remarkably quickly. They miss their friends, but still interact with them on line. They’ve found games to play online with them, which gets round the problem of having nothing to say, as they’ve done nothing worth talking about.
I’m glad home schooling is going well for you and your kids so far Anne. It is very different this time around, isn’t it? I’m the same with feeling happier to have the children home. We’ve had a few stressful moments with trying to juggle schoolwork around other things and still get it all done, but mostly it seems to be working well so far. Hope you have a nice weekend. #WotW
So glad home school is going well for you. Let’s just say I’m glad it’s the weekend! I’m glad the kids are at home at the moment but Darren going out to work puts us at risk of the virus. Because of that, it wouldn’t bother me if Ethan could go back to his SEN school but at the moment it is only for keyworker children whose parents are on the frontline fighting covid. If in time they open up more I will put his name down like we did last time.
Like you I feel much happier that schools aren’t open and we can stay away from others. Homeschooling is going ok so far but my daughter does miss seeing her friends.
