Hello and welcome to the home of Word of the Week. A nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. The idea of the linky is to reflect back on your past week and share it with us. It’s great if you can sum it up in a word or phrase, hence giving us your Word of the Week. My word this week is ‘Slippery slope’ and you can read more about that below.
I’m not totally strict on using just a word or phrase. But please try to stick to the theme of summing up your week. There are not too many rules with this linky, just remember to read at least another couple of posts in the link up after adding your link. I will read and comment on all posts and tweet them out for you. I also have a Pinterest board devoted to Word of the Week and I will add posts to Mix Please add the badge below to your post so that others may find us and join in. If you comment or tweet then please use the hashtag #WotW
Word of the Week is open from 6am on Friday Morning to 12 noon on Monday. Plenty of time to join in!
If you are unfamiliar with the Word of the Week linky then please feel free to ask any questions. New linkers are always welcome, we love to hear what you have been up to in the past week.
MY WORD OF THE WEEK – Slippery Slope
January, it has to be the worst month of the year, so cold, so dark and a big come down after Christmas…well usually. This year I think it has been even more difficult, no Christmas celebrations to break up the monotony of a bleak winter.
This week we had snow! It started the weekend and by Sunday the garden was full. Time to get out in our wellies and build snowmen and have snow ball fights. I wish I could, I’d even get down and make a snow angel if I was able! I did go outside, I stood on the doorstep while calling out instructions to the Little Man on how to make a snowman. It’s been 3 years since we had such a big snowfall and he hadn’t got a clue. Then his big brother went out and between them they made two gorgeous snowmen. One is still melting four days later.
Monday it was my eldest’s birthday. He’s now 33! Oh My! We had a good day, I think he liked his presents and he had some lovely cards. We had a party tea with the Hairy Biker’s Pork Tenderloin wrapped in bacon as the centre piece. The ginger wine sauce was delicious….oh and I think the ginger wine was rather nice too! We then played Jackbox TV together for a bit of fun.
The rest of the week has been a slippery slope though. School work became a nightmare, even the Little Man who has so far attended every lesson, has been finding it all a bit too much. The school has been helpful with the girls. But unless they actually start submitting work they will have to go to school as vulnerable students. This caused Star to have a meltdown. Did it encourage her to actually do more work though? (Full marks if you said no.)
The family has been getting under each others feet and we at the stage now that when someone walks into the room, someone else walks out. It’s no fun for me stuck in the middle.
My health has been deteriorating too, I’m not sure if it’s lack of sleep as the kids have been playing up at night time. But my pain has also kept me awake. Last night I took extra sleeping pills in the hope of rest, but I was still woken up.
Riding this slippery slope is not easy and I need a sleigh to get me through. Preferably one wrapped up in duvets and heated pads as the cold is not helping either.
Things can only get better!
Now it’s over to you, what word or phrase sums up your week this week?
I like the idea of riding the slippery slope in a sleigh loaded up with duvets and heat pads. That would certainly make it more bearable. January has been so tough hasn’t it? The snow made things feel better here too and it sounds like your eldest had a nice birthday. Hope that things get better for everyone on the home-schooling front and that you can get some better rest and the pain eases a little too. #WotW
It’s nice that the kids had fun in the snow – however old they are! I think the online school work gets to them all after a while. Hope next week is better.
How exciting to get some now. It is a shame you couldn’t get down to make a snow angel but it does sound like you had a lot of fun with the boys.
Happy birthday to your eldest. It sounds like he had a great day.
Oh Anne, Sending love and hugs. So sorry the rest of your week has gone downhill. The home learning is hard going. We’ve had a few moments when it all seemed a little too much but thankfully the school have taken pity and set some fun work this past week.
It sounds harsh but your girls need to realise they have to submit the work or they will have to go to school. I’d like to see how the school enforce that though.
No wonder your health has been deteriorating with all the stress you are under. I hope you manage to get some decent sleep and some stress free moments over the weekend xxx

I have an image in my head of you riding a amazing sledge, with duvets and furs through a snow laden scene. The snow was good. We didn’t have quite as much as you, but enough for a snowman and sledging. Snowman making is a skill. I’m glad you and your Eldest were on hand to show him the ropes. January is a hard month. I hope February brings you some pain relief. This week was difficult to get my two school ones up and at the desk in time. Spring is just round the corner. Hang on in there.
I’m so sorry you are having a rough time too. Our house is small and it’s starting to feel even smaller! The birthday meal sounds amazing. I’m jealous you had snow, we didn’t get any. Let’s hope things improve in February for us all #WotW
