Easter Sunday started off fine. I hid the Little Man’s Easter eggs to find and he had fun looking for them. The girls didn’t want theirs hidden as they felt they are too old now. The sun was shining, an Easter egg was devoured straight after breakfast and we had no idea that the day would end with a rush to A&E with a broken arm!
The kids had lunch and as the sun was shining I encouraged The Little Man to spend his internet break in the garden. His Dad was going to plant a new tree for me and he could help, or watch. They went outside and he decided to sit on the slide to watch his Dad plant the tree, but he slipped, and he fell, and he landed awkwardly. His screams were stomach churning! A neighbour ran out with an ice pack (She’s a nurse) and I called an ambulance. No arm should ever look like that, it makes me feel queasy even thinking about it now.
The ambulance arrived within minutes and The Little Man was calmed with gas and air, while they put an inflatable cast on his arm. Then he was off with his Dad to hospital.
It all happened so quick I was dazed.
My Poor Boy Had Broken his Arm
An xray at the hospital confirmed that he had broken both bones in his forearm. Then it was time for the doctor to decide what to do. And he didn’t rush. When Graham called to say they were still waiting at 10pm I really thought they were not going to do anything until the morning.
Well, they did. At 3 am he was in theatre having a manipulation. Then he was put in a plaster cast and sling and sent home. They arrived back at 5.30am.
It took them 10 hours to decide what to do and then less than 3 to do it and send him home.
He’s now been home six hours and has only just stopped crying. The hospital sent him home with nothing. (EDIT: I felt, after reading the comments, that I need to state that the hospital had given him pain relief before he came home, but he wasn’t sent home with a prescription. I also need to state that my husband went straight to bed after getting home because he’d been up all night and at the time of writing this post I had no idea what he’d been given at the hospital. I did ask Graham but he said no, I think he was really tired. ) I have given him paracetamol and ibuprofen and finally the pain seems to be settling a little. Until his next dose is due. His neck is hurting, his shoulder is hurting and he’s so tired and grumpy.
What a great way to start the Easter holiday, and I had been celebrating the fact that I could hold up my head again after a two day migraine which floored me.
I keep saying to The Little Man, it can’t get any worse, it can only get better. That’s our motto for now.
Maybe in the future I’ll let him stay on Roblox all day!
Awww, I’m so sorry. This must hurt so bad. It’s a shame they sent Little Man home without pain relief! When I suffered a slight collarbone fracture in 2019, I was even given strong painkillers. I’m also so sorry they took so long to decide what to do only to send him home so quickly after they did. Sending healing vibes and prayers your way.

Aww! Your poor Little Man. What a scare for you all.
That seems so wrong they waited until 3am to do surgery and then sent him home so soon without any pain relief. I hope he feels better soon.
Sending love and hugs x

That is a terrible experience for both parent and child. Hope the Little Man doesn’t hurt anymore. #MMBC
I can’t believe they didn’t send him home with any pain medication at all! I still remember how painful it was when I broke my leg and that was waaay back in the 4th grade. Hopefully he’ll be feeling much better real soon. #MMBC
What a brave little man. I can’t believe they didn’t give him any pain relief. It must have been an awful time for you all. Hope little man is feeling much better now. Xx
