Hello and welcome to the home of Word of the Week. A nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. The idea of the linky is to reflect back on your past week and share it with us. It’s great if you can sum it up in a word or phrase, hence giving us your Word of the Week. My word this week is ‘routine’ and you can read more about that below.
I’m not totally strict on using just a word or phrase. But please try to stick to the theme of summing up your week. There are not too many rules with this linky, just remember to read at least another couple of posts in the link up after adding your link. I will read and comment on all posts and tweet them out for you. I also have a Pinterest board devoted to Word of the Week and I will add posts to Mix Please add the badge below to your post so that others may find us and join in. If you comment or tweet then please use the hashtag #WotW
Word of the Week is open from 6am on Friday Morning to 12 noon on Monday. Plenty of time to join in!
If you are unfamiliar with the Word of the Week linky then please feel free to ask any questions. New linkers are always welcome, we love to hear what you have been up to in the past week.
MY WORD OF THE WEEK – Routine
Last week it felt like summer was over…then the heatwave came. I managed to get a ton of washing and drying done, but phew it was a bit too warm at times. I’m glad it’s cooled down now and I’m looking forward to a thunder storm or two. The biggest thing this week though has not been the weather, it’s been establishing a brand new routine.
We had the Little Man return to school on Monday, the year seven’s were given the school to themselves for two days to ease them in. Then on Wednesday, Boo, and the rest of the school returned. I’d already chatted with Boo’s teacher and we decided to put her straight into a normal school routine. Before the holiday she was doing half days and spending most of her time in the SEND department. It was a risk, but I thought that if she started back with everyone else, they’d all be feeling the same nerves so she wouldn’t be alone. She has found it just fine so far, fingers crossed it continues.
Star started college on Monday, she was there until 2pm and she came home a little stressed. Her boyfriend took her for a walk and she seemed happy when she came home. It didn’t last though and there were tears before bedtime. On Tuesday she had to go to college until 4.45pm…a very long day. She didn’t want to go, but we persisted in making her. I understood her nerves and anxiety but if she misses time now she’s not going to find it any easier later on. She’s doing something she really wants to do so it’s really worth persevering and I’m glad we sent our tearful girl in. She came home much happier. She had the day off yesterday, but had another long day on Thursday. She was much more comfortable going in, not perfect, but comfortable. I’m sure she will be fine once the induction period is over.
And then I realise how little attention I’ve given my Little Man. I have given him attention, he’s had praise and we’ve talked about school, but he’s settled in like he’s been there forever. I’m so proud of him and I hope it continues. Of course, he will face changes when his routine is established and groups formed by ability. I think he will do just fine though. He’s even enjoying the school dinners which is great because I had to make him sandwiches in last school.
Finally, we are back to the routine of getting clothes ready, getting up (me and the Little Man have always got up early, but it’s been a shock to the system for the girls) and getting ready to leave the house early. I think it’s gone well, but I’m so tired already and can’t wait for tomorrow when I don’t have to do or supervise anything.
While the school routine has gone ahead I’ve had a lot of other things to deal with, not least my increased pain and tiredness. Next week we have to work out the school routine around me being in hospital every day. Wish me luck!
Now it’s over to you, what word or phrase sums up your week this week?
I’m glad you were able to nudge your daughter enough to persuade her to go in. I’m sure her coping mechanisms will kick in and she will be fine. Little man sounds excited like the little year 7s I used to have too. It’s always a good idea to get them in and around a little before the older ones come in. All the best with your new routine next week too. Hope it goes well.
I am glad that everyone is settling into their new routines. I am sure Little Man was fine about not having a lot of attention, there was a lot going on. Star will soon settle down once she gets used to the long days and it was good that her boyfriend was there to help her.
It’s still warm here. I’m waiting for it to cool down. Ugh.
It sounds like the new routine is going well. Well done Boo for doing so well and returning to school full time and Star too for going to college when she really didn’t want to go. Aww! Your Little Man sounds like he’s settled in well too.
Good luck for next week. I hope everything goes well x

Well done Little Man for settling into his new school so well! Mine switched to school meals at secondary. I don’t miss making sandwiches. I’m glad Boo has found the return to school easier than you imagined. Stars new course sounds exciting and I hope she soon looks forward to the days she’s in college. Change is never easy. Fingers crossed that next week is plain sailing for you. We have such a tight routine on school mornings, that I know I’d have trouble fitting anything else in.
I’m glad the return to school has gone well on the whole and that Star was much happier after her long day at college. Good luck for being in hospital next week and working the school routine around that. Hope all goes well with your treatment and that you have some time to relax over the weekend before going in. #WotW

I’m glad they are all getting sorted. Sometimes you have to push them a little bit for their own good. Scary when they are all at High School etc! I’m with your girls, I don’t want to get up in the morning either, but with the school transport coming I’ve got no choice!
