My Review of Kids Knit
I can’t knit, well I can a bit now thanks to this book. Boo was interested in learning so I decided to learn with her. I do remember my Mum trying to teach me to knit when I was young, but she gave up on me, or I gave up because it was too difficult.
We bought a set of different sized knitting needles from Amazon. I bought beginners needles made from bamboo. It took a while but following the instructions in the book we were both casting on and learning how to knit.
It was very slow, in particular for Boo who has to do everything perfectly. But we were soon making progress. Boo’s next wish is to make this owl. I’ll let you know how she gets on with it.
The book is very aspirational containing age appropriate knitting techniques and patterns. It’s perfect for beginners and they can start learning the basics and be amazed at what they are suddenly able to make from these basics. One they’re ready they can move on to colour changes and complex shapes and textures.
The book has beautiful photography and also includes attractive illustrations, knitting jokes and activities. There are step-by-step tutorials which make learning very straightforward.
While Did the Owl invite his friends over?….. He didn’t want to be owl by himself!
There are 20 projects in this book each in level up sections:
- woven pouch
- frog
- fingerless mittens
- monster hand puppet
- tufty owlet
- rose
- bunting flags
- stripy cup cuddle
- bean bag
- teddy
- bag
- cockerel egg cosy
- cat ears
- sleepy puppy
- hedgehog
- beanie
- little fiels mouse
- jewelled crown
- ladybird
- ornamental cacti
It really is a fabulous book and I believe even those that do not have a clue how to knit will soon be making amazing creations.

What a fun thing to do together. I have forgotten how to knit. Maybe I need to get the book too. #MMBC

We’ve been sent this book too and I think it’s absolutely brilliant. I sounds knit a little bit so it’s given me a chance to practise. I’ve made a ladybird and now I’m knitting the field mouse.

Ohh lovely, I’d love to see your creations.
I remember trying to learn how to knit with an Usborne book from the library when I was little. I never really got past a Wonky scarf but I wouldn’t have got that far without the book! My mum will readily admit she’s hopeless at anything like that, though my Nanna did help teach me when I saw her.

I think a wonky scarf is as far as I’ve got in the past too. I hope I will be showing off some lovely creations very soon.
This book looks great! My 8 year old daughter likes the idea of knitting but doesn’t have the patience, she’ll get a few inches into a scarf (with a lot of dropped stitches on the way) then give up! But maybe a book like this would encourage her to stick with it.
I think knitting is quite tricky to learn. I tried teaching Boo crochet and she did quite well, but lost interest. Now we have goals and want to finish at least a couple of projects in this book. Time will tell if she stick to it.
What a lovely idea for kids if there intetrested in knitting making it child friendly X #mmbc
Yes, it makes it easier to learn when you have clear guided instructions.
It looks a lovely book. I know my children were always inspired by the idea of knitting something small and cute. More inspiring than the first thing I learnt to knit at 7 years old – a dishcloth. My mother kept it (unused) and gave it back to me a few years ago. Cat’s ears would have had me hooked. #mmbc
aww how sweet your mum kept the dishcloth you made. We will get around to the Cat’s ears 🙂
This looks fab, my daughter has expressed an interest in learning to knit, so I shall have to add this to her list #KLTR
Hey, maybe even I could manage this! I once learned to knit but apparently I do it left-handed which caused confusion any time I got into a knot! Haha! Thanks for linking up with #KLTR
