I love having time with my kids in the kitchen. We are always baking cakes or biscuits or other yummy things. Now I have a bigger kitchen having them in there with me is even easier because we have more room. I’ve decided that this year I’m going to let them cook a lot more, not just the yummy stuff either. So while I’m rummaging around for Child friendly recipes I’m starting up a monthly linky to join up with other mum’s who like to cook with their kids.
If you are interested in learning about cooking with young children you may be interested in this Toddler Course about feeding little ones.
I will highlight some of the posts shared in my weekly round-up. My aim is for us all to share our cooking experiences and inspire us to allow our kids into the kitchen more.
I will share all posts linked up on my Pinterest Board. It’s a great place to look for recipes to cook with your children too.
I want to encourage my children to cook more not only because it’s fun but to help them learn about food preparation and what we eat. I don’t have a complete ban on junk food, and I’ll admit I’m the first to grab the chicken dippers or fish fingers after a busy day, but teaching my children about food will help them to choose healthier eating habits in the future. It’s also a great way of getting your children to eat things they wouldn’t normally eat. We all want them to eat more fruit and vegetables don’t we? Well, they are more likely to eat them if they have been put into a meal that they have made themselves. Cooking also offers other learning activities like weighing and numbers, and the science of what happens to food when it’s mixed or cooked.
I’m going to start by setting aside one day a week (for now) to spend with my kids in the kitchen. We’ll make all sorts from quick lunches to main meals and desserts. We will no doubt be cooking up some yummy treats too, like the chocolate bark we made for Easter last year, or the baking we did for Halloween.
This is the Gingerbread house the littlies helped me make for Christmas. We had a fantastic messy time, but sadly the house didn’t last very long as shortly after we’d finished the roof collapsed.
I’d also be mighty grateful if you included my badge in your post so others can see it and come along and join in.
