Hello and welcome to the home of Word of the Week. A nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. The idea of the linky is to reflect back on your past week and share it with us. It’s great if you can sum it up in a word or phrase, hence giving us your Word of the Week. My word this week is ‘Backwards’ and you can read more about that below.
I’m not totally strict on using just a word or phrase. But please try to stick to the theme of summing up your week. There are not too many rules with this linky, just remember to read at least another couple of posts in the link up after adding your link. I will read and comment on all posts and tweet them out for you. I also have a Pinterest board devoted to Word of the Week and I will add posts to Mix Please add the badge below to your post so that others may find us and join in. If you comment or tweet then please use the hashtag #WotW
Word of the Week is open from 6am on Friday Morning to 12 noon on Monday. Plenty of time to join in!
If you are unfamiliar with the Word of the Week linky then please feel free to ask any questions. New linkers are always welcome, we love to hear what you have been up to in the past week.
MY WORD OF THE WEEK – Backwards
It’s like one step forward and two steps backwards in my life. Just and I think we are rising up out of our slump we fall back down again.
I feel really sorry for my Little Man. Last Friday he came home and told me of the things the school were planning for the 100% attenders at the end of the term and was so excited. Then he got sick, and I mean really sick. He barely moved for days except to throw up or go to the toilet. Then even when he got better some symptoms remained. He couldn’t go to school. He has begged me to get his absence authorised so he doesn’t lose his awards. I’m trying but I feel so angry that the school are punishing children for being sick. So far, I’ve had no calls returned. So I’m going to keep trying. Sadly, to get a sickness authorised you have to have a note or prescription from a GP but a doctor won’t bother to see a child with a D&V bug, they are just a part of life and nothing can be done. I did get worried at the weekend when his temperature reached 39.2C but even that can be treated at home so long as it improves with medication.
If he does miss out on the treats I’m keeping him off school and taking him out myself.
Boo has also lost time from school. She goes from being a happy child, to an incredibly stressed out one in seconds. I just put it down to normal teenage life as she is 14 and her hormones are all over the place. But I have experience, and I know her behaviour is not normal. I’ve requested help from a local clinic but I don’t know how long it will take. She is in her GCSE years at school and her teacher’s at her parents evening last week had nothing but praise for her. But, if she can’t get her mental health under control this could all go backwards and we’ll end up with another struggling child.
With the kids off school I’ve been so confused with what day of the week it is. All my hard work of the past few weeks have taken a backwards fall. I’m way behind now and playing catch up.
I don’t like going backwards, I’d much prefer the improvement of moving forward.
Now it’s over to you, what word or phrase sums up your week this week?
It is unfair when schools ‘punish’ a child for being sick when it is not their fault. I hope Boo manages to get some help soon, my daughter had issues with mood swings and I felt that I was constantly walking on eggshells around her. We did get referred but unfortunately she had come through the worst at the time so it came a little too late and ended too soon. We ended up paying privately when she went through a similar experience last year which was a lot more useful. I hope it doesn’t come to that for you.
I’m considering going private for my older daughter who has been trying to get help from the NHS for 12 years. x
Oh no! What a rotter of a week for you. I hope your Little Man is feeling a bit better now. It is so frustrating that kids are punished from school because they are sick. You do right keeping him off school if he will be missing out on the treats.
I hope you get some extra help for Boo from the clinic. Teenage years are tough enough without adding extra mental health issues on top.
I hope next week is a week of going forwards for you and your family x
That is so unfair. Poor Little Man. I would do the same and take him out myself after all between now and July there aren’t that many schools days left. I hope Boo can get the help she needs too.
I really don’t like attendance awards – it’s so unfair to punish children for being unwell and it seems daft that sickness has to be authorised by a GP note when there are so many things that children get unwell with that can, and should be managed at home. Poor Little Man. I hope he is feeling better now. I’m sorry that Boo is struggling too with her mental health. Really hope that you can get the support she needs. Big hugs to you all x #WotW
