Yesterday I had my first ever visit to Ikea. I couldn’t believe how huge the store was, it just went on forever and forever. It took a long time to get there too, it’s about a 45 minute drive away. I went with Graham who was driving (I couldn’t drive that far yet) and my eldest daughter. It was quite a day out.
There were room set ups that you could browse and see how the items they sold would look in your home. This freestanding bath was in a bedroom. I like the idea of an on suite but to have a bath in my bedroom, I’m not too sure.
Everything was labelled so you could go to a computer screen and put an order in to pick up at a check point. (or I think that’s how it works…it’s all a little overwhelming if you have no idea what you are doing.)

I loved this room, it could have been a corner of my teenage bedroom. In fact I think they might have stolen it from me, only my LPs were Kate Bush (with maybe a little Human League and Culture Club)
I think this is probably how I’d like my bedroom to look now. I’m quite keen on red and black.
It took a while, maybe a couple of hours, to get through the whole shop, but we did pick up a few things that my daughter had specifically gone for, and a whole heap of ideas. Although, if I’m honest, I’ve seen much better quality at cheaper prices elsewhere.
So, overall, it was an experience going to Ikea for the first time, but I’m not sure it’s one I’d want to repeat too often. If I did, I’d actually avoid going on a Saturday, what fools we were, the place was so crowded!
If you are interested, I bought some bath mats for my bathrooms, they both needed replacing. I also bought one of those drawer divider sets for Boo’s drawer because every time she goes to get clothes she messes everything up. I treated us to a tin of biscuits too, but I’ve not tried them yet so I can’t tell you what they are like. We didn’t try the meatballs or any of the food…the queues were ridiculous anyway.
I was surprised at how many cuddly toys they sold, a whole section devoted to them.

I liked this Octopus…..but….
But we ended up buying one of the famous Blåhaj or Blue Sharks which is featured in a lot of memes and is sometimes used as an Ikea mascot. It currently lives on the back of my settee!
I couldn’t really tell you much more about Ikea, I found the trip a little overwhelming if I’m honest. It was like being a museum, rushed along by a sea of people, with no idea of what was going on.
I love going to ikea. Our closest one is only about a 10-15 minute car drive away. I usually go by myself or with a friend. Every time I go with my husband he likes to race through like a mouse in a maze!
I think we were like mice in a maze
Congrats on losing your IKEA virginity! Hehe. I LOVE Ikea’s furniture and all of the knick-knacks. It’s nice to see the setups in the stores as well.
I do know what you mean about it being busy though, it can test your patience! xx
I have never been to an Ikea before. They do look like amazing stores though, I can understand why they are a full day out. It sounds like you had quite an experience coming away with a lot of ideas! x
Ikea stores are huge and very busy. I enjoy wandering and looking. #MMBC
Ikea is such a big thing in Japan. People go there just to walk around. And we love going to stock up on cookies!
IKEA definitely does seem overwhelming! I’m amazed that was your first ever visit there. My kids love it. No doubt we will be going next year to prepare for my daughter going to uni.
I do so love Ikea. We have around three of those sharks now as my son was quite taken by them. Thanks for linking up and sharing with #MySundaySnapshot.
