Back in 2020 my girls asked me to take them to Six the Musical, but unfortunately we were unable to go that year due to some pandemic that closed everything down and the world came to a standstill. We didn’t get to see the show.
Then this week we finally got to see it and it was well worth the wait.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect and I’d only heard one song from the show before. I knew it was a musical about the six wives of Henry the VIII and that a little history would be involved, but if only history lessons in school were so interested.
Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived
But each of the queens had their own stories to tell and each had their own song. As well as the entire cast being female, the backing band was female too.
You are asked at the beginning to choose your favourite queen, but the story at the end is much more relevant and inspiring. I don’t want to give anything away here, but if you have seen the show you will know what I mean.
The show is more like a rock concert than a musical, there is a little talking in between but the acting is done throughout the songs and dancing. In the last five minutes of the show you are encouraged to take photos and even videos, I’ve never known that at our theatre before. Then of course, everyone stands up for a medley, dance and sing along at the end. I don’t mind having my view of the stage blocked at this point, I get my own little tv screen to watch the action. I don’t like having it on during the show but I always turn it on before the end so I don’t miss anything.
The girls were jumping around and singing and dancing. They had a real good night and were really buzzing.
We had good views as usual. I do like the efforts the Hippodrome makes for their disabled visitors, they are very inclusive. I’m kind of sad that my next visit is not until October. We did look into going to see Hamilton, but they are mostly sold out except for rubbish views.
It was really nice having an evening out with my girls and I hope we get to do it again soon.
Have you seen Six?
It sounds wonderful! How lovely to enjoy a good night out with your girls. I had heard of the musical but had no idea what it was about. Now I want to see it!
It is the best history lesson I’ve ever had 🙂
I hadn’t heard of Six before, but it sounds like great fun. I’m sure I would enjoy it. #MMBC
It was truly amazing, what a way to learn history, but also what a way to learn about lifting other women up and stop complaining about who has it worst. It really was an eye opener in many ways.
Six is something my youngest and I want to see. Every time I see clips of it, it looks amazing!
It sounds like a really fun show and I love that you can take videos and photos, that never happens! I am glad you had a great time!
You would really love it Kim and so would your girls x
