Dreaming of Sailing Away

One of my biggest regrets in my life so far is not travelling very much. In fact, I’ve not left this little Island I call home, not ever.

I’m not keen on hot sunny places, the sun gives me headaches and I never sunbathe. The thought of sitting around a pool or on a beach all day doing nothing but relaxing fills me with dread, I’m bored just thinking of it.

I hate spiders and insects that bite or cockroaches or any of the critters you take for granted in other climates. My skin crawls at the thought.

On this Island I feel safe, we have no deadly insects or animals (well not roaming freely) we have no dangerous earthquakes or tsunamis, we have no active volcanoes and even our weather is calm compared to other countries, what’s the loss of a garden fence in a hurricane compared to the loss of an entire town elsewhere?

So my friends, I have not ventured far..if anyone asks if I have been abroad I say yes, I have been to Ireland!

Just one more little factor in my lack of travel, I’m a little bit scared (read ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED)  of aeroplanes. I can’t say flying because I’ve never flown, but  I quite like the idea of flying, I just don’t fancy getting into one of those awful flying machines. Maybe that’s something I will have to conquer one day. Maybe.

Next year I have a savings plan which matures and all along I have said that I will use it for a cruise and finally leave my beloved Island and venture somewhere else. Now, I’ve been looking around and I’ve found some fantastic no fly cruises. I’m so excited. I’m thinking that most people looking at these would opt for a trip to  Portugal and the Canary Islands, but I’m going to do something a little different. I want to go to Norway! I so want to visit Bergen,

A city with its feet in the sea, its head in the skies and its heart in the right place – full of infectious enthusiasm, and happy to share it with visitors.

Then my cruise would take me to Alta where I would be able to see the Northern Lights, how amazing would that be? The cruise also takes in Honningsvag, Alasund and Stravanger.

So, there will be no sunbathing by the pool for me, I’ll be wrapped up warm enjoying the snow and amazing views that Norway has to offer.
