Last weekend Salem got sick. We don’t know what happened he just started being very poorly and the weight dropped off him incredibly quick. We decided we’d take him to the vet on Monday, but ended up going in as an emergency on Sunday. They checked his bloods which came back okay and then gave him anti-biotic and anti-sickness injections. We had to take him back on Monday.
He was given more injections but they really didn’t know why he was so sick. We had some pills to give him from Wednesday and he has to go back to the vets today.
All week our focus has been on Salem. We lost two cats just two years ago, Suzie and Scribbles. They were both really old but it was still hard to let go. In comparison, Salem is quite a youngster at just seven years old. We really didn’t want to lose him but it looked so likely at the beginning of this week, he was skinny and listless and did nothing but flop on a cardboard box. We tried cushions and blankets but he just wanted a cardboard box.
After his vet visit on Monday he started to perk up a little and we managed to get him to eat a little cooked chicken. As the week as wore on he has eaten a little more each day and is now getting up off his box to walk to his food rather than having it shoved under his nose. It’s progress, and he’s even looking like he’s starting to put on weight again. Fingers crossed he is on the mend and will continue to get better. It’s been a tough week.
In other news, we missed the Little Man’s parents evening because of being at the vets. We are waiting to hear when his teacher can fit us in for a chat.
On Wednesday we managed to go for lunch at my friends house, the lunch we had to cancel last week because of sickness. It made me realise that I’d not been to her home since before I got sick (I have seen her many times though.) Then I realised that there are so many places that I haven’t been since I got sick. We had a lovely lunch and catch up though, I really must get out more.
Yesterday Star managed to fall up the stairs at school and has sprained her wrist. Thankfully it was a fall up and not down and that she didn’t do more damage. With her condition she could have easily dislocated something. She came home with an ice-pack and a sling!
Today is Children in Need day and the younger two have gone to school as last minute made up super heros. We were told we could be as imaginative as we wished, we just hope that they understand that the costumes were very last minute..eek…Boo has gone as Super Silver Cat, and the Little Man as Sonic the Hedgehog Super Fan.
I’m hoping for a nice peaceful weekend.
Oh poor Salem, I do hope that he's on the mend now, so worrying for you all.A fall up would be better than a fall down, I do hope Star is OK and not too shaken up by it. Hope you get that peaceful weekend x Thanks for sharing with #WotW
It is horrible when cats get poorly but so pleased that he has turned a corner. I hope he makes a speedy recovery. Have a great weekend X #wotw
horiable
Poor Salem. Frustrating when you don't know why. Fingers crossed that he has all four paws on the road to recovery. I'm sure all your love and attention must help. Lovely that you managed to get out to enjoy lunch with your friend. Time does fly. I so hope you have photos of your super heros. The names sound fabulous!! #wotw
Poor Salem. Glad that he has started to perk up a little and hope that he is now on the mend. Hope that Star's wrist heals quickly too. I love the sound of the super heroes costumes. Hope you have a nice peaceful weekend 🙂 #WotW
Poor Salem, I wonder if he ate something that he souldn't have. I'm glad that he is looking a little better now. Thankfully we just have a non-uniform day today. I'm still jet lagged I don't think I could cope with creating a costume ;0) #WotW
Just had a call from the school, Star needs to go to hospital 🙁
Oh no! Poor Salem! I'm glad he's a little better now and Star too. Like you said at least it wasn't a fall down the stairs. That could have been so much worse….I hope you have a nice, relaxed weekend x
We are trying to get Star treated now as her wrist has got worse, it's not going to plan though!
Poor Salem and poor Star, it's not been a great week for you all has it. I hope they are both on the mend really soon. It's lovely that you finally went to lunch with your friend, I bet it did you the world of good. Hope you have a nice weekend x
Hi Anne, I hate it when the animals are sick. I probably worry more when they are sick than when the children are. A few years ago we went through hell with our German Shepherd, it took weeks to find out what her problem was, but once we did and with lots of TLC she fully recovered. I hope the same goes for Salem. At seven he's young and strong still…It must be nice for you t get out and I hope you manage it more often… I'm not sure if missing a school parent meeting is such a bad thing, I used to dread them as I'm not good in crowds and fuss…. I hope Star recovers from her stumble, it could have been so much worse!
Thank you for linking up with the #MMBC
xx
Oh no poor Star what a nightmare for her, and hope Salem continues to improve its awful when pets get ill x
