Hello and welcome to the home of Word of the Week. A nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. The idea of the linky is to reflect back on your past week and share it with us. It’s great if you can sum it up in a word or phrase, hence giving us your Word of the Week. My word this week is ‘gremlins’ and you can read more about that below.
I’m not totally strict on using just a word or phrase. But please try to stick to the theme of summing up your week. There are not too many rules with this linky, just remember to read at least another couple of posts in the link up after adding your link. I will read and comment on all posts and tweet them out for you. I also have a Pinterest board devoted to Word of the Week and I will add posts to Mix Please add the badge below to your post so that others may find us and join in. If you comment or tweet then please use the hashtag #WotW
Word of the Week is open from 6am on Friday Morning to 12 noon on Monday. Plenty of time to join in!
If you are unfamiliar with the Word of the Week linky then please feel free to ask any questions. New linkers are always welcome, we love to hear what you have been up to in the past week.
MY WORD OF THE WEEK – Gremlins
I was so looking forward to a nice chilled week but we have been bugged by gremlins all week.
Last week the Gremlins got into our boiler but we had the heating fixed finally on Friday…yay! Just as the weather got warmer. That’s one gremlin off the list but the week didn’t go to plan.
On Saturday our oven broke while cooking dinner. The Gremlins struck again. We still had the hob and my lovely Facebook friends gave me loads of options for food that doesn’t need the oven. The good news is, we have it insured so I called them and they came out yesterday. We’ve had a week of unwelcome food, my family do not like changes in their food and definitely do not like anything that I cook in the slow cooker apart from fudge. (And we certainly can’t live on fudge.)
The repair man came on Thursday and didn’t have the part, despite my telling them exactly what part they would need (the fan) so I was really annoyed. Now we have to go another 7 days. I won’t be renewing my insurance.
The Little Man decided he wanted to spend less time on screens (whoo hoo!) and more time playing games. Which was great until he really wanted to play Bugs in the Kitchen and his ‘bug’ was missing. Not so much a gremlin but an ugly little critter so can I cheat? It was another thing that went wrong though, but I managed to get him a new bug off Amazon.
The rest of the week has passed relatively peacefully, I’m upset that I don’t have my oven and didn’t realise just how much we relied on it, despite having all the other kitchen gadgets for cooking. I wish it was summer so we could have BBQs instead. The kids have been spending a lot of time on screens but at least the Little Man has been trying something different. (an hour of Hangman the other day, and neither of us lost a game!)
Today it’s Graham’s birthday so I’m hoping we have no more Gremlins messing things up. I have all his presents and cake ready and its take out for dinner…no need to worry about the broken oven!
Now, its over to you, what word or phrase sums up your week this week?
Sorry to hear that the gremlins have struck in your house. Glad you got the boiler fixed but how frustrating that the oven is still not fixed despite you telling them what part was needed. Our oven broke last year but we were only without it for a couple of days before it was replaced and that was annoying enough. Hope that yours will be fixed next week. Happy birthday to Graham and hope he has a good one. #WotW
Thanks x I hate not having an oven, I have a family of very fussy eaters and the other kitchen cooking appliances just don’t do the job properly 🙁 Fingers crossed we are not left much longer without it.
Hope you get the oven sorted soon. Ours broke in December, but was fixed very quickly. Get a broom and tell the kids to chase the Gremlins out with it! Happy Birthday to Graham, hope he has a nice day.
Thanks, Graham has had a nice day. And take out for dinner so no cooking worries.
That is annoying: no fan with him … your gang sound even fussier than ours, food-wise! O only eats a certain range of things, and K is vegetarian, so multiple dinners the norm!! #WOTW

There are seven of us here Enda, one with allergies, one with an eating disorder and two who only eat certain foods. It’s not much fun shopping either.
Gremlins in your oven are so frustrating! My kids were very picky about what they would eat when they were younger too. I guess they were used to my cooking. My grandkids would never say they want less screen time. We have to fight with them to shut down their screens. good for your Little Man!

My children love the same food over and over, and most of it is food cooked in the oven. We’ll get by, or starve, one or the other. The Little Man has not been on a screen all day today, but he’s not been feeling well either 🙁
Oh dear. You really have been bugged by gremlins. That’s a shame the kids didn’t take well to the change in food and how frustrating they didn’t have the part.
Happy birthday to Graham! I hope he has a fab day x

Thanks Kim, I hope Graham has had a good day, although the Gremlins struck again when he couldn’t play his new game I bought him for his PS4. Luckily we managed to get it sorted in the end but then it was too late to play. We did have a delicious Indian take out, and birthday cake.
I hope Graham had a great birthday. What a nightmare not having an oven for that long. We use the slow cooker quite a bit but never made fudge in it. It really was a week of gremlins for you. I hope this week has gone better #WotW
