Hello and welcome to the home of Word of the Week. A nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. The idea of the linky is to reflect back on your past week and share it with us. It’s great if you can sum it up in a word or phrase, hence giving us your Word of the Week. My word this week is ‘muddled’ and you can read more about that below.
I’m not totally strict on using just a word or phrase. But please try to stick to the theme of summing up your week. There are not too many rules with this linky, just remember to read at least another couple of posts in the link up after adding your link. I will read and comment on all posts and tweet them out for you. I also have a Pinterest board devoted to Word of the Week and I will add posts to Mix Please add the badge below to your post so that others may find us and join in. If you comment or tweet then please use the hashtag #WotW
Word of the Week is open from 6am on Friday Morning to 12 noon on Monday. Plenty of time to join in!
If you are unfamiliar with the Word of the Week linky then please feel free to ask any questions. New linkers are always welcome, we love to hear what you have been up to in the past week.
MY WORD OF THE WEEK – Muddled
The peace of last week didn’t last very long…in fact it had gone by the time I published my last Word of the Week post. This week can only be described as muddled.
So, what do I mean by muddled? I can’t really say confused, which is what muddled means, but it’s definitely been a mixed bag of everything.
We have Star embarking on her GCSE’s and her brain is totally muddled. We have had sleepless nights and tears and worry. But she has also had a good talk with her head of year who has given her a timetable and revision pack. I’ve tried a bit of philosophy on her, Determinism. She can only do what she can do at that given time. She can revise and do well, or do bad. But if she at least tries she is doing what she can. I’m pretty sure she will surprise herself, but even if it all goes wrong we have a back up plan. And her college application is in which is a big relief. She’s worried she won’t get accepted but she’s perfect for the course and if she doesn’t get the GCSE’s required, she can do them at the college. We have age on side, Star won’t even be 16 until August.
The Little Man is Muddled too. He went to hospital last Friday, the letter said he would have his plaster cast removed. He did. But they replaced it with another one. I did think it was too soon for the cast to be taken off, it’s only been two weeks since he had a double fracture in his arm, one of which was almost a clean break. The new plaster does not go up over his elbow though which means he can move his arm more. The problem is, even though he is not wearing his sling, he is refusing to move his arm.
We had a lovely weekend last week, the weather was lovely and Graham did some gardening and then we had a really nice BBQ. We were in a muddle about the things found under the trampoline, we can only assume that it was Ash’s collection…it was quite bizarre, he appears to be a bit of a hunter, but why he was keeping the remains in a hiding place we really don’t know. (urgh, one of the pitfalls of owning a cat.)
The week has been muddled with our routines totally in the air and not knowing what day it is. Boo hasn’t been to school because of contact with someone with a positive Covid Test. She is in self isolation until tomorrow. This means she can still mix with us as a family and we can go out. Only she can’t go anywhere. We do regular Covid tests for the ONS and we also have Lateral Flow Tests. So far, we have no positives for anyone.
The Little Man has been off school for a couple of days because of his hospital appointment and then illness. But he’s back at school now. He’s been allowed to wear his joggers to school each day because he’s getting in a muddle doing his trousers up after visiting the toilet. He can still use his fingers on his bad arm, but he’s refusing to do so. I think his physio will help after his cast his removed for good.
We also got into a muddle on Monday. We always have pizzas for dinner on Monday and I noticed that Dominoes had a 60% off offer so I thought I’d treat us all to Dominoes and leave the pizzas off the shopping. The offer was removed on Monday and to keep my promise I ended up spending a fortune, getting the pizzas all mixed up and the treat wasn’t so good after all.
The final muddle of the week, I changed the shopping days. My eldest daughter was complaining that she couldn’t get fresh food for work. So I decided to split the shopping into two. One on Sunday and another midweek. It’s got us all in a muddle not knowing whether we are coming or going food wise, and guess what…the only things missing from the midweek shop was the food I’d ordered for my daughter’s work lunch!
I think I’ve rambled on enough, now it’s over to you. What word or phrase sums up your week this week?
Hope your talk with Star and the head of year’s support will be helpful in easing the worry over GCSE’s. I can see how removing one cast and replacing it with another is confusing for Little Man. Hope his arm continues to heal well and that physio will help him get it moving again. Having children off school does make the days feel muddled – glad Boo has stayed well and hope that stays the case for you all with Covid. Frustrating that the offer on the pizzas ended just when you were going to order them and that your daughter’s lunch items were missing on the shopping. Hope next week is a less muddled one. #WotW

Thank you Louise, we are most definitely looking forward to a nice long relaxed weekend and hopefully the bank holiday next week won’t put us in another muddle.
Muddled I like that word, though it’s kept you on your toes this week! Poor Little Man I hope the physio can help him. Isn’t that just typical with the pizzas? Hope next week is less muddled!
Sending love and hugs. Your family is really going through it at the moment.
I am pretty sure Star will try her best and if she doesn’t get the grades she needs it’s fine! My eldest didn’t get a high enough grade in Maths but still got on to her course and had to do the GCSE as an extra lesson.
That must be a bit more comfortable for your Little Man with the new cast. I hope he starts moving his arm a little.
Poor Boo. Thank goodness for the negative tests.
Oops with the Dominoes pizza. It is so expensive at full price. When we could get it delivered I would only get it when there was an offer on. x

Lots going on this week. Isn’t funny how changing your food shopping day can really throw you off. What a nightmare with the pizzas, we have had a pizza hut request that I’m putting off for a bit. I’m glad you have a plan for Star. To be honest my GCSE results were only ever used to get me into college.
Oh Anne, what a week. Ramble on please, hopefully it has helped to air out some of your frustrations! I can completely sympathise with star’s worries, I was exactly the same. Some mindful pauses between revising different subjects might help all of the information to sink in, and allow her to rest a little too. Hope this coming week is better for you!
Changing my shopping day would throw me. I’m glad Little Man’s hospital appointment went well. Hope he gets used to the new cast soon. When my eldest broke her arm when she was little, the person removing her cast, cut her hand. She wouldn’t go near anyone with scissors for years. The GCSE is a nightmare. Our school is vague about what is being assessed and no timetables. I wish we had the usual exams. I’m glad Star is getting support at school.
eek! I will not tell my Little Man about your story, he was so terrified when they took his first cast off. I’m trying not to stress Star out too much with her GCSEs she will just refuse to do anything otherwise.
