Last week I gave you a photo from our holiday while telling you that Star was in hospital. We were sure she was on her way home pretty soon but it was not to be. She wasn’t released until Tuesday and this photo of her hospital room was taken just before we left.
She spent one night in a cubicle in A&E, then a night on ward on a trolley in the new hospital, until she was finally transferred to a room of her own early Sunday morning and I spent two nights with her in this room. They were kind enough to provide me with a bed which I honestly didn’t get to spend much time in. My family wanted me home and Dad to stay with her, but she needed a lot of personal attention and although the nurses would have provided it, she ‘needed’ me.
The whole experience was a bit of a nightmare, but the staff were lovely and we made it home in time for her birthday on Wednesday. She had wanted a day out with her friends, but we had to have a day in instead. We made the most of it with some Convalescence essentials, turning the day into a cosy, restorative experience. Finding comfort in these essentials helped make our time indoors just as enjoyable. We had party food and they played computer games. Then when they went home her older sibling took charge, buying her a take out of her choice (Domino’s) and playing games with her all evening. She was centre of attention all day.
She managed to have her fun day out yesterday (Saturday) with her friends and went bowling. They were gone for about 1.5 hours.
Last night she was really upset, I think it takes time for stress to come out sometimes and she needed to release it. We don’t know what the future holds and can’t tell her what to expect. But she knows that we will always be there for her no matter what. I may be disabled but I can still look after her when she needs me. Of course my body is paying the price now, but I will be okay and so will she.
Aww! Poor Star! She really has been through it for someone still so young. It is totally understandable that she would want her mum when she was in hospital. It must have been hard on you both. Sending love and hugs.
I am so glad she made it home for her birthday and it sounds like she had a fab time. x
Poor Star! What an absolute nightmare for you all. No wonder she got upset. It must have been a very scary experience for her. Thank goodness you could stay with her and do what she needed you to do.
I’m glad she was out in time for her birthday and managed to get her celebration with her friends.
Oh bless you! I hope things get better asap – you poor thing! Thanks for sharing and for linking up with #MySundaySnapshot.
Really feel sorry for the star. Our kids are special, its really traumatizing for us to see them suffer in sickness. But nice to see that her room was neat, clean and beautiful. Also a helpful staff made it easier for you.
