My Sunday snapshot this week is of the Discworld Stamps that I just had to buy. Since taking this photo, the stamps went missing and I’ve looked everywhere (yes, even through the recycling bin) but I just can’t find them. I did buy myself a new (better) set, but I refuse to take a photo of them just in case.
Terry Pratchett and Discworld Stamps.
I have been a Terry Pratchett Fan since 1998 and the great man passed away in 2015. I did write a tribute post to him here. I was consumed with grief when writing this…for an author I never got to meet in person but have read all of his books.
If you’ve not read Terry Pratchett, maybe you’ve seen Good Omens on Netflix. He was co-author with Neil Gaiman on the first book and it shows his style. Although Good Omens is actually a YA book. Terry Pratchett wrote a mixture of Adult, Young Adult and Children’s Books. (Did you see the animation of The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents?) A lot of his books have been made into films.
Back to the stamps:
Rincewind – A Wizzard and the main character of the first two books.
Moist Von Lipwig – a protaganist in Going Postal which was made into a film
Sam Vimes – A Police commander in The Watch
Death and Mort – The Grim Reaper (it’s just a job) and his young assistant.
The Librarian – Ook. He used to be a wizard but now he’s a gorilla.
Granny Weatherwax – head of the witches and master of headology
Tiffany Aching – A young witch and the main character of Terry Pratchett’s final books.
The Great A’Tuin – A giant turtle that floats through the universe with four elephants on it’s back which rests the Discworld.
I am thrilled that they issued these stamps in Terry Pratchett’s honour. And I most certainly will not lose my new set.
Oh wow! They are just stunning! I hope they turn up.
I have heard of Terry Pratchett, I think most people have but I haven’t read his books but have seen some of the TV series which adapted from them. Hogfather, Going Postal and now Good Omens is on my list of things to watch since I’ve subscribed to Amazon Prime. x
The stamps are very cute. I hope you find the first set. #MMBC
Love these! Did not realise that they had done a set of Discworld stamps. Terry Pratchett is one of my favourite authors, and Sam Vimes and the guards are my favourite characters. MMBC
oh Wow, another Pratchett fan. I love Sam Vimes an I’m so chuffed that they developed the Vimes boot theory of socioeconomic inequality. Terry Pratchett would be so proud. Of course, I love Lady Sybil too and she really brought the best out of Sam, and the dragons are a nice touch too.
I’m glad you bought another set of stamps but I hope you find the first set. It’s so frustrating when things go missing!
That really is a mystery! I’m glad you managed to at least get a replacement set.
I know how much you love Terry Pratchett, but I never got on with his books. I tried a couple and they just weren’t for me!
Oooo I’ll have to show my hubby these stamps- he’s a huge TP fan. Thanks for taking part and linking up with #MySundaySnapshot.
