I notice this frozen spider web outside on the shed yesterday and it really sums up my day. Last week I was looking at Autumnal trees, now it feels like winter is really here.
I’m thinking the spider who made this handiwork is long gone, but it’s pretty amazing. It looks like a piece of crochet.
I got up yesterday morning to a freezing cold house and my heating wasn’t working. I have a small heater that I use in the living room for when I’m trying to save money on the energy bills and there is no-one else home. You can really tell the difference when there is no heating in the house (especially going to the loo!)
I called for an engineer for the boiler and it took him nearly 7 hours to turn up, only to tell me the boiler was fine and it was a problem with my gas meter. I was told to contact my gas supplier but the emergency number told me to e-mail as there was no out of hours service. But if I had no gas then I could call the gas board. So that’s what I did.
They came out quickly, within an hour, but couldn’t do anything. The meter was broken and only my gas supplier could change it. So, I had to e-mail them. I really thought that was it, I wouldn’t hear anything until Monday. However, I was e-mail back within 10 minutes. I had to give them details and get my son to go outside and take a photo of the meter. Then I got a phone call saying that someone would be with me within 4 hours. This was at 8pm so I was preparing to stay up in a freezing cold house until midnight when all I wanted to do was curl up under my duvet in bed and try and get warm. I’m currently sitting her on Saturday evening with plenty of layers, one of my crochet blankets and fingerless gloves. I can still feel a chill on my face and nose though. The kids are in their rooms. They have their computers and rarely have their radiators on. It will be cold upstairs though, because heat from downstairs rises and there is no heat downstairs.
My daughter wanted the heater that Graham used in the shed, but when she went to fetch it, it fell apart. I have no idea what happened to that, I only bought it him last year. My eldest son has a small heater in his room. I think this means we have to purchase at least one more emergency heater. I don’t like being frozen!
Hopefully by the time you read this we will have our heating back on. This takes me back to my childhood when we had just one gas fire in the living room. The bedrooms were freezing and so was the bathroom. We survived, but today I’ve realised just how lucky we are.
EDIT: The gas meter was fixed about 10pm last night and we we were warm once again…I thought I’d pop by and let you know as this post was scheduled and published this morning.
The webs really were amazing yesterday! Fantastic photo! The web does look like a piece of crochet. It does feel like winter now, we’ve had snow today.
Oh no! What a day for your boiler to stop working! I am so glad you got it fixed and are warm again! x
Glad the heating got fixed – it’s horrible when it stops working at this time of year. That spider web is so pretty.
Spider webs are very complex and beautiful. Add frost and it’s amazing. Great photo. #MMBC
Thank goodness you got your heating fixed! What a day for it to stop working and it sounded like a right hassle getting in touch with the right people to get it sorted out.
It really was, it took all day but at least we didn’t end up with frozen pipes. We had a suspected gas leak a couple of days later but it turned out to be a smell coming from the street not inside our house.
Such a cool wintry web – well captured! Thanks so much for linking up and for sharing your images with #MySundaySnapshot.
