It’s been a bit of a roller coaster few years, but the Little Man has just started his new school. It’s a mainstream school but he’s getting one to one support and lots of help from an outside source (although that hasn’t been arranged yet.)
For week one he just did 2 hours a day to get used to the school and meet some teachers. He seems to like it there very much.
For week 2 he is staying a little longer, 4 hours a day so we’ll see how he gets on. He seems keen to do full days already, but we are trying not to overwhelm him. He has a couple of friends from his old primary school. (the one he was happy in but then Covid hit.) It’s been a while but he’s chatted to them online and he’s keen to meet them. I just hope they are okay with him because he’s not really matured so much in the past few years whereas I can imagine that being in year 9, they will be a lot more mature than year 6. I can only wait and see.
At the moment his Dad is coming over to drive him to school because I’ve not yet got this driving thing down. It’s not that far away, but it’s too far to walk, and it’s quite a walk to the bus stop. Plus, the Little Man has never caught a bus on his own before. Maybe, he’ll be able to later on. I live in hope.
It’s already cost me a small fortune for a new uniform, despite already having shirts and trousers. So, I really hope it does work out for him. He’s so excited and coming home happy. He’s been in a couple of classes and he got on well.
He has his EHCp (Education, Health and Care Plan) in place. Maybe, just maybe this time it will work. This is his fifth attempt at a school environment and hopefully his last.
We’ll cross the school meal issue when we get to it, he’s keen to try the pasta pots but he’s so fussy on flavours. I can always go back to a packed lunch.
I hope he will be happy in his new school. Well done for everything you have achieved so far!
It sounds like Little Man has had a positive start. I hope that increasing his hours will go well and he finds new friends 🙂

I’m so happy for you. It’s wonderful that he’s excited to go to school and I hope this continues throughout the year. #MMBC
