This is my first Valentines Day as a single person for twenty two years! It’s no biggie, we never really did Valentines Day anyway. I think he bought me some flowers once, I’m not sure. If there is one thing I have learnt over the years it’s that self love is most important.
Self Love
So what is self love? It’s having love and appreciation for yourself. It’s more than just taking care of yourself but more developing a understanding of your own health and psychological needs. It means having a higher regard for your own needs and not sacrificing them in order to please others.
Self love can be difficult because we spend too much time comparing ourselves to others and focusing on our own mistakes and shortcomings.
The truth is that everyone has these flaws, no-one is perfect.
Some simple tips for self love are:
- stop comparing yourself to others
- allow yourself to make mistakes (to err is human)
- your value does not lie in how you look
- let go of toxic people in your life
- process your fears
- see the beauty in simple things
- be kind to yourself
- trust yourself to make good decisions
