I took this picture of Bournville Village the other day. As you know, I don’t get out much. I’m hoping to change that in the future but at the moment, it seems the hospital is the only place I go. I went to a new hospital this week to learn how to do my treatment at home so I won’t even be going to hospital. So I’m planning on getting out to more different places.
I live near Bournville and it’s a place I often pass by. This is the row of shops right next door to the famous Cadbury factory and, of course, Cadbury World. Bournville was built by the Cadbury brother’s in 1878. They not only built a factory but a whole area for their workers to live with lots of parks and recreational areas as well as homes. It has remained mostly the same and it often feels like a step back in time.
I love Bournville at Christmas time as they have the most beautiful Christmas tree. It’s a joy to go past and I often go and see the lights switch on which is a big event. I didn’t go last year as I didn’t have my husband to take me and it is a bit crowded to go without a carer. I will go again though. I don’t need him.
I remember when Cadbury World opened. I didn’t live around here then but we were not far away. The kids all went on school trips but it was opened 30 years before I had my first trip. We’ve been many times since and I think we may go again soon as they have been making some changes so it will be nice to see what they have done. The ride has been changed, so my video in the post I’ve linked in this paragraph will be different.
I also love the Carillon which is an amazing bell tower where the bells are rung by a huge keyboard. This sits in a school building opposite this village setting.
Jonathon coe wrote a book set in Bournville, and you can read my review here on my other blog At Home a Lot
Have you ever been to Birmingham or Bournville?
Up until I started reading your blog I thought Bournville was just chocolate and not a place. How interesting to read about it. x
I can confirm it’s more than a chocolate, but it was built by the factory owners. It really is a lovely place, I hope it doesn’t change too much in the future. xx
I need to visit Bournville! It also sounds so fascinating and I love seeing pictures of it. We’ve been to Cadbury World a couple of times and my son walks over there to buy his sister’s Christmas present from the shop. As you know, Birmingham feels like a second home to us now my son is at university there.
It’s a place we are yet to visit (maybe one day!). It looks and sounds wonderful though – Thanks for linking up and sharing your snaps with #MySundaySnapshot.
