Holiday
I left you last week with my memories of our lovely holiday in Devon. The family has decided that next year they would like to try a Butlins holiday camp instead. My anxiety over this is rising, but I know I will do it if I can. First up, I do have many experiences of Butlins Camps and they have been very crowded and busy. Also, I don’t like chalets, I really don’t, so our accommodation will have to be something else, and it will have to be ground floor and accessible. This means the cost is going to be much higher. If I start now, I can be prepared, I hope.
Back To School
It’s back to school week this week for most and I’ve been getting everything prepared. I left the uniform shopping a little late, but I think I have everything now. (I’m still waiting on Boo’s p.e. trousers as they were out of stock in her size, so I hope she doesn’t have p.e. on her first day back.) We went to get their new school shoes and were shocked to find that Boo has bigger feet than Star! There is nearly two years between them and Star is much taller, but Boo has the bigger feet and you know what that means? Yes, we had to buy her bigger shoes. It’s only half a size so I’m glad they chose completely different shoes so they won’t get mixed up.
Awareness
It’s just six weeks until the awareness day for Stiff Person Syndrome and I am on the team for promoting this day. I run the Twitter account and I have prepared some photos with facts to tweet out on the day, twenty of them to be precise. I am also preparing a video with little statements from several Stiff Person Syndrome sufferers. I have a list of everything I need to do to make sure I am fully prepared. I’m also hoping that the new website will be ready in time, but I’m not in charge of that. I will be helping to promote it though. Awareness is the key, the more people that know about our condition the easier diagnosis will become and maybe one day we’ll even get someone interested in researching cures and treatments. It’s all preparation for future generations.
My word of the week this week is prepared. That makes a change for me.
I like the zebra promo, Anne, you are doing good work and I’ll try to find you on Twitter. Lots of back to school stuff on your end, I don’t know if you saw the article on always bringing a spare sock for the kids when trying on shoes but it seems like a must do. I won’t go into the story if you haven’t seen it.
Anyway, hope the holiday camp works out and you’ve got a fine looking crew, fun pic, I bet it wasn’t easy getting them all up there.
All about being prepared for you this week. Sounds like the kids were all sorted ready for school. I doubt it’ll be long before my son’s got bigger feet than his big sister, and she’s pretty big! I hope your awareness day goes well x Thanks for sharing with #WotW
Wow you sound super prepared Anne, well done you. Kids feet grow so fast you can’t keep up sometimes can you ! Best of luck with the awareness day, it sounds like you have everything under control for it. Have a great weekend x
we did Haven holidays with my parents as a teen, I’ve never been to a Butlins, but I’m not good with other people, busy [places and noisy environments #keepingitreal
It doesn’t matter how prepared you are, there is always something that doesn’t turn up in time for the start of school. Ours was a school bag, but she had her old one and the new one arrived today. My middle teen overtook her older sister in shoes a while back and doesn’t seem to be stopping. Love the photo of all your gang in the big chair. Hope the planning for next year’s holiday is straightforward. Good luck with your awareness day. The zebra picture is eye catching and I’m sure will make an impact. #wotw
Your holiday for next year sounds lovely. You have a lot of time to prepare so I do hope that helps your anxiety to lower and you can enjoy it 🙂 All the best for your awareness day, I hope you’re hard work pays off!! #WotW
Good luck with the Butlins holiday. You don’t sound keen at all.
I hope the kids have gone back to school OK….
I will keep an eye out for the tweets about Stiff Person Syndrome awareness day. It sounds like you are very well prepared for everything.
I have never been on a Butlins holiday and am not sure if it would appeal but you have plenty of time to find a great site with the necessary adaptations you need.
My 12 year old has bigger feet than me now. She is a size 7! I hope they stop growing soon because larger sizes can be hard to find.
Good luck with rising awareness. I have to be honest I know very little about stiff person syndrome. The pictures with info blasts on them sound like a very effective tactic. The zebra one is very eye catching and sure to gain attention #wotw
It sounds like you are being very prepared. Hope that you can find the right kind of accommodation at Butlins for you and well done for all your work in raising awareness of Stiff Person Syndrome. Such an important thing to do. #WotW
You sound very prepared and that makes all the difference. Please that going back to school was good. All the best with the awareness day X #wotw
I think if you will start saving now you can have that dream holiday next year! I am lucky to have other Moms giving me their old uniforms as my son is the smallest in school. I just need to buy school shoes for my son and we are ready! #wotw
You will do an amazing job raising awareness Anne I am looking forward to seeing what you do. Butlins seems to have really re modernised over the last couple of years have you seen those lake houses they look fab. I bet Boo is going to be really tall? Both our boys have huge feet, and Jack is so much taller than Chris and I and I can see Joe going the same way x
Hi Anne, oh no! A Butlins Holiday after the lovely time you had in Exmouth! It’s a shame, but if the family are happy then it will all work out okay and you have plenty of time to prepare (is there ever such a thing?)… This is the first year I’ve not had children going back to school and I have to admit I’m loving the thought. Even with older children, there is so much to do and it’s never cheap, decent shoes especially (fingers crossed that Boo & Stars feet have stopped growing now)… I’d never heard of Stiff Persons Syndrome before I ‘met’ you. I can’t think of anyone more cut out for helping to raise awareness than someone with the condition and in this day and age raising awareness for things has never been easier, if people take the time to click and learn. If you tag me in some of the tweets I don’t mind retweeting, life will be slowing down again by then and I’ll have more time for things like social media and blogging.
Thank you for linking up with #keepingitreal.
