Hello and welcome to the home of Word of the Week, a nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. The idea of the linky is to reflect back on your past week and share it with us. It’s great if you can sum it up in a word or phrase, hence giving us your Word of the Week. My word this week is Election and you can read more about that below.
I’m not totally strict on using just a word or phrase but please try to stick to the theme of summing up your week.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Since adding this link up party to a directory I’ve noticed a lot of posts, in particular, recipe posts, that do not fit in with the theme of this linky. I have made the decision to remove these posts from further link ups. So please don’t link up anything unless it includes a summary of your week or events in your life. Thank you for your understanding
There are not too many rules with this linky, just remember to read at least another couple of posts in the link up after adding your link. I will read and comment on all posts and tweet them out for you. I also have a Pinterest board devoted to Word of the Week and I will add posts to Mix Please add the badge below to your post so that others may find us and join in. If you comment or tweet then please use the hashtag #WotW
Word of the Week is open from 6am on Friday Morning to 12 noon on Monday. Plenty of time to join in!
If you are unfamiliar with the Word of the Week linky then please feel free to ask any questions. New linkers are always welcome, we love to hear what you have been up to in the past week.
MY WORD OF THE WEEK – Election
If you missed the election this week then you must have been hiding in a cave (tempting) Or living in a far off country, but even then I bet it was on your news!
By the time this post is published the results will be known. I do believe this is the most important election we have ever had Or at least one of the most important.
All over Social Media there has been Election Propaganda, truths, lies, memes, (some really awful memes.) People have argued, pushed their opinions, argued some more and maybe even changed their minds on some occasions.
I’ve bitten my tongue so much it’s swollen!
I’ve also been involved in some discussions that have not turned out too badly. Yes, we may have had opposing views but it was interesting to discuss them without abuse or name calling, or completely dismantling each other’s beliefs.
So, the main thing this election has taught me is something I already knew. People are all different, in many ways. We look different, we feel differently and we all have different things affecting our lives. We surround ourselves mostly with people who are most like us, but even those are different.
So, whatever this election has brought, it will be good news for some and bad news for others. It can’t be any different. I just only hope that everyone took the opportunity to vote so that the results are the representation of the majority of the population.
Now it’s over to you, what word or phrase sums up your week.
Last weeks Word of the Week was Catching Up!
Whichever side of the political spectrum you fall on, this election has been pretty awful for name-calling, disagreements, spiteful memes and propaganda. I’m glad you’ve been able to discuss the issues without it descending into that. Thanks for hosting #WotW
Some of the memes have been awful on both sides haven’t they? I have had a couple of discussions where I’ve disagreed with someone, but even when I’ve presented actual facts rather than memes they would rather believe what they want to believe. That’s their choice, I’m not going to call them names because of it. x
Wow you did well . Some people’s mud slinging made me see them in a different light as resorting to name calling showed more about them than the people they were slagging off
Tina, you should know me by now, I don’t do mud slinging or name calling. In fact I respect that other people see things differently and never expect anyone to totally agree with me. I’m not a people pleaser either and expect to have my own opinions respected too. Thanks for stopping by x
All over now. It has highlighted some interesting aspects of human nature this week. I’m not going to comment on the result, but I’m always puzzled by the number who don’t vote. Average turnout since 1918 is just over 71%, I understand. Looks like it is going to be a similar number this time. Where are the other 25+%?
undecided Cheryl, stuck between a rock and a hard stone for some I’m afraid.
Your election has been in the news here in the states too. I am not looking forward to our election next year. What a mess! It does make you want to go live in a cave.
I understand Laurie, it seems the same in so many countries these days. I wince at the television when I see places like Hong Kong and Spain too. 🙁
I was shocked with the results of the election but it’s happened and there’s nothing we can do now.
I was pretty shocked with some people on Twitter last night when the exit poll came out. I unfollowed a few. It really showed a different side to them. 🙁
I kept off social media last night Kim. I knew how it would be. Thankfully, I’ve managed to avoid a lot of the drama today too, nothing like a bit of Christmas shopping to get away from it all 🙂 x
same with any election some are happy some not but no amount of abusing people verbally is going to change the result.
Totally agree it has been one of the most important elections for many a year and was nice to see a relatively high turn out so a lot did take it seriously
Too true Elaine, verbal abuse is uncalled for. Whenever I’ve seen something upsetting I just scroll away.
I tend to stay away from politics to be honest, I have no love for any of the parties but I did cast my vote so now I can continue to moan privately about all of them LOL! I do think though that the world is getting gradually nastier generally and I do wonder what went wrong. They say charity begins at home and in my view its the same with everything else. Be kind, make your own decisions and find out your own information. Everyone can make a difference no matter how small.
