Today I’m going to take you on a trip down memory lane with a nod to Spring sunshine and gorgeous dutch tulip bulbs. Let’s celebrate tulips!
When it’s Spring again I’ll bring again
Tulips from Amsterdam
With a heart thats true I’ll give to you
Tulips from Amsterdam
I can’t wait until the day you fill
These eager arms of mine
Like the windmill keeps on turning
That’s how my heart keeps on yearning

The Tulip Festival
As a child I distinctly remember the wonderful time we used to have at the Tulip Festival held in a local Birmingham Park. I would go with my Mum, Dad, Nan, Aunts and Uncles and Cousins. It was a real family day out. I loved how there would be lots of stalls selling dutch items and there was always a big fake windmill for decoration.
I was obsessed with clogs and would beg my parents to buy me some. I had to settle with a little wooden keyring souvenir. I can’t blame them, they were not cheap and I probably would not have had much use out of them. They were so beautiful though, just like these ones on Etsy.
Our local Tulip festival stopped many years ago but I will always remember those fun days, boat rides, train rides, picnics, celebrities, stage shows. parades, the Festival had them all.
Tulips
But the star of the show was always the glorious tulips, there were hundreds of them.
Here are a few facts about the tulip:
- tulip flower buds are knows for being almost perfectly symmetrical
- tulips are part of the lily family
- you can find tulips in almost any colour
- white tulips are used as a gesture to say sorry
- tulips are said to signal the beginning of Spring
- they were once the most expensive flower
- if you cut tulips they will continue to grow up to an inch in your vase
facts taken from Country Living Magazine.
I’m seriously thinking about planting some tulip bulbs and maybe next year I’ll have my own tulip festival in my back garden.
