Hello and welcome to the home of Word of the Week. A nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. The idea of the linky is to reflect back on your past week and share it with us. It’s great if you can sum it up in a word or phrase, hence giving us your Word of the Week. My word this week is ‘Family’ and you can read more about that below.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING IF YOU WISH TO LINK UP! FROM NOW ON, THOSE NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES WILL BE DELETED.
I’m not totally strict on using just a word or phrase. But please try to stick to the theme of summing up your week. There are not too many rules with this linky, just remember to read at least another couple of posts in the link up after adding your link. And please only add one post to the link up each week, multiple posts will be deleted. I will read and comment on all posts and tweet them out for you. I also have a Pinterest board devoted to Word of the Week. Please add the badge below to your post so that others may find us and join in. If you comment or tweet then please use the hashtag #WotW
Word of the Week is open from 6am on Friday Morning to 12 noon on Monday. Plenty of time to join in!
If you are unfamiliar with the Word of the Week linky then please feel free to ask any questions. New linkers are always welcome, we love to hear what you have been up to in the past week.
MY WORD OF THE WEEK – Family
I hope you have all had a happy Christmas holiday. Next up is New Years which is not our favourite time of year but we do have our family traditions, which mostly involves cheese and alcohol.
I chose the word family this week because I feel it sums things up well. On Christmas Eve I went to see my Mother-in-law who I haven’t seen for a very long time. I couldn’t actually get into the house as it’s too far for me to walk and not very wheelchair friendly, but she came out to talk to me in the car for a while. (We parked outside the house where I lived for 24 years, I guess it’s a good job we don’t live there now as I wouldn’t be able to get in their either!) On the way back we stopped off to see the lovely Bournville Christmas tree.
We had party food and drinks Christmas eve which was really nice and it felt good having all my family around. Christmas Day, my two eldest girls cooked Christmas dinner all by themselves. (I did help dish up.) They did an excellent job. (I think it’s been about 40 years since I last had Christmas dinner cooked for me.) In the evening we played Cluedo, which I think is becoming a family tradition. Everyone was happy with their gifts and it was a lovely day. Even Graham joined us for the day.
Boxing Day began with the district nurse turning up to do Star’s catheter change. I know she wasn’t due until the 27th but she argued with me and I let her in and Star was quite co-operative and it all went really well. (I checked the notes afterwards and she had definitely put that she was coming on the the 27th…but hey ho, we got it out of the way early.)
Today we have Graham’s brother and the kid’s cousins coming to visit. They are still family so it will be nice to see them, it’s been a while, we haven’t seen them all year. We were supposed to be seeing them when we went on holiday this year as they lived quite close to where we were staying, but without Graham it didn’t seem right.
I’m also hoping to see my brother and sister-in-law before the new year. My cousin came to visit just before Christmas and brought me flowers and chocolates. It’s the only time of year I see him but he always remembers. When we were younger he lived with my Mum and Dad, so he’s kind of like my brother/cousin.
In Christmas from childhood it was all about family. My Nan had eight children and they all had children, I had two older brother’s with children. My nan lived with us for most of my life and even when she didn’t she would stay over for Christmas, so our home was filled with family all the time.
My family now is very small and forever shrinking. But we do have each other and it can be enough just having six of us living at home. We are family and we are very lucky to have each other.
Now it’s over to you, what word or phrase sums up your week this week?
My word was going to be family so I added “time” to make it different LOL! Glad you had a lovely Christmas. Any family tradition involving cheese and alcohol sounds good to me! Happy New Year to you and your family xx
It sounds like you all had a great Christmas with a lot of family time.
How wonderful that you went to see your mother in law and the Bournville Christmas tree. Well done to the girls with the cooking! That is sweet that your cousin came to visit. x
I am so pleased to hear that you had a good time with family. It sounds like your girls did well. We were saying over here that we don’t think ours could do it if they had to! But I suppose they would have to do what they can do. Family is so important and I’m happy you all got to see each other and spend time together.
Snap! Happy new year, Anne. Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas. How lovely that you got to see your mother-in-law and wonderful to have Christmas dinner cooked for you. Glad that Star’s catheter change went well even if it was a day earlier than expected. Lovely to have visits from family too. #WotW
Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas with your family. I read your earlier post where you were in a bit of a panic. I was exactly the same! I had left everything until the last minute as I had so much going on at work. But everything came together in the end and I’m so happy to hear that everything worked out for you too. How lovely to have your girls cook Christmas dinner. Cheese and alcohol on New Year’s sounds wonderful to me!
