Hello and welcome to the home of Word of the Week. A nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. The idea of the linky is to reflect back on your past week and share it with us. It’s great if you can sum it up in a word or phrase, hence giving us your Word of the Week. My phrase this week is calm and you can read more about that below.
I’m not totally strict on using just a word or phrase. But please try to stick to the theme of summing up your week. There are not too many rules with this linky, just remember to read at least another couple of posts in the link up after adding your link. I will read and comment on all posts and tweet them out for you. I also have a Pinterest board
devoted to Word of the Week and I will add posts to Mix Please add the badge below to your post so that others may find us and join in. If you comment or tweet then please use the hashtag #WotW
Word of the Week is open from 6am on Friday Morning to 12 noon on Monday. Plenty of time to join in!
If you are unfamiliar with the Word of the Week linky then please feel free to ask any questions. New linkers are always welcome, we love to hear what you have been up to in the past week.
MY WORD OF THE WEEK – Calm
This week has brought a strange calm about the household. The homeschooling is going well and the kids are doing their work with just the minimum encouragement from me. The girls get an e-mail every day telling them what to do, and I get a School Ping for the Little Man. The girls are mainly getting on with it themselves but the Little Man needs a little more encouragement. I’m not stressing about it too much and it has become part of the new routine rather than a pain.
If you’ve got kids at home I wrote a post about the lovely free stories available on Sooper Books the other day, do take a look if you have bored little ones.
We are also coping with being cooped up. The weather has changed and no-one has been out much. I do hope it turns around again soon because we need our outside time and vitamin D intake.
The calm has come from the quiet of the colder days. No screaming kids in the garden or blasting music, no neighbours arguing with the windows open wide. It’s really quiet. It’s really calm. And I like it.
With this calm all around it’s made me feel calm. Yes, there are still tensions in the home, but we are dealing with them quickly and returning to peace.
The news around the world isn’t so good, it’s all so very depressing, so I look for the good things. I’m not a meme or joke type of person, but there are still good stories and things that make me smile. We all need to smile, no matter how grim everything is.
I’m sick of fighting, there has been so many tensions for years now, in politics and world issues. People have fallen out all over. But for now, I am staying calm. I am not going out. The messages are mixed, the population are not understanding, there is confusing information, shared mis-information. It’s all too much. I don’t want to switch off and ignore what’s going on. I need to know the main points of the news. But after that I’m switching off.
I’m taking a deep breath
I’m staying calm
What about you? What word or phrase sums up your week this week?
I am glad to read you are staying calm, Anne. My emotions have been a roller coaster lately. I have had to switch off the news and only watch for a very limited time each day. My husband and I are staying home, using Zoom to stay in touch with friends and family, and getting projects done around the house. I miss the grandkids, though!
Calm is a great word especially in these times. It sounds like you have got into a great routine. Well done to the kids for getting on with their school work.
The weather has been rubbish hasn’t it. The sunshine is supposed to come back over the weekend. Hooray!
I have mainly stopped watching the news apart from the 5pm press conferences and a bit after. It has really helped me stay calm. x
Kim Carberry recently posted…This week my Word of the Week is: Worn! #WotW
I like the idea of the work being sent each day. We get it in dribs and drabs which is proving confusing. I’m glad you are finding the calm. We’ve found the noise level for us has dropped, except the birds who are in full spring voice, so that brings the level up again. I’ve found myself not following the news as much as closely as I did. Just enough to know what is going on. Hope you are keeping well.
Hi Anne, my word lof the week would be elderly, with the feeling that somehow the lives of older people are being almost written off as colateral damage durinf this coronoavirus challenge/ #WotW
I like the word calm, with all the panic and constantly changing information it’s good that at least in your corner of the world things are better. My two were given work in advance of the schools closing so we’ve been working through that. I no longer watch the news, it’s too much. I see bits and pieces that’s enough.
I’m glad that you’re managing to stay calm in amongst all of this. I think switching on briefly to find out the news and then switching off is the way forward – staying informed is good but it’s so easy to be overloaded and overwhelmed right now too. Sounds like everyone has settled into the new routine too. Hope you are having a nice weekend. Thanks for hosting #WotW
