This week I have seen so many butterflies in my garden, most of them have been small white butterflies, My Mom used to call them Cabbage Butterflies. One day I spotted this little broken butterfly on my washing line. His wings were damaged and he didn’t seem to be in a hurry to fly off. I though maybe he couldn’t fly, but he proved me wrong and flew off into the trees. I looked him up and I think he is a Dingy Skipper Butterfly.
I love butterflies and I’ve been thrilled to see so many in my garden. I’m sure it’s because of all the nature by the canal at the side of my house. We see all sorts of birds, bats and can hear woodpeckers and owls in the trees. We also get squirrels and so many hedgehogs. We had a hedgehog wander into our house one evening!
I was sad to see the sorry state of this broken butterfly, but despite his condition he was still able to fly off. I wish I could fly and not worry about being so broken.
I always believed that butterflies only lived for a day, but my friend Google assures me it can be a week or two. Some, like the Painted Lady can live for up to twelve months.
If you look at the header on my blog you will spot seven butterflies, one for every member of my family. There is one for each of my five children, one for my husband and one for me. One day we will all fly free.
While you are here, why not check out my latest competition.
Nice to have a canal nearby, lovely piece, Anne
So beautiful! I love that the butterfly could still fly, even in such a damaged state. You obviously love butterflies. #MMBC
beautiful even if he has a bad wing – probably a bird took a bite of the wing #MMBC
I love seeing the butterflies in my garden. Your one does look quite broken. I am glad it could still fly x

It’s amazing how they fly so damaged. I’ve not seen a Dingy Skipper. At first glance, I thought it was a Comma, but it’s so battered. Your canal sounds like a wonderful nature corridor. I’m envious of your hedgehogs. Ours have all gone. #mmbc
I see what you mean, the wing shape is definitely like a Comma, but it was definitely not orange which is why I went for the Dingy Skipper, the pattern on the back was very similar. But, I see now that Comma’s can be brown, so maybe it is after all.
It’s incredible how butterflies can still fly with damaged or missing parts of their wings, a real testament to their resilience! Beautiful photo.

I never realised the significance of the butterflies in your header before. It is amazing how they can still fly sometimes with damaged wings. We’ve raised Painted Lady butterflies before but I didn’t know they could live so long. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Dingy Skipper butterfly before though. #MMBC
How beautiful. I’m amazed it could still fly. It must be lovely to have so much wildlife in your garden.
How lovely that the butterflies on your header represent all of you.
Oh I adore butterflies, what a wonderful snapshot. Thanks so much for linking up and for sharing this with #MySundaySnapshot.
