Phew, It’s hot and I can’t believe it’s going to get hotter. I hope you are all managing to enjoy the sun safely and/or keep cool. This week I found out what my cats do in a heatwave. They find the coolest place in the garden of course. And they don’t even mind sharing!
The garden table is on concrete and it keeps the floor cool while providing the necessary cover from the sun. The perfect place for a cat or two to sleep during a heatwave. I almost wish I could join them there!
We don’t get the heat in the back garden until later in the afternoon which is lovely. It means I can have the patio doors open all morning and keep the room cool. Then as soon as the sun comes over we shut the door and put the fans on instead. I have been outside a couple of times, but I’ve never been a sun lover so a few minutes is all I can manage. Enough to get my natural vitamin D!
The pool is ready to be filled today. We shouldn’t really use the water but the boys get really grumpy when hot and they will sit in the pool for hours. I have a cover so we can re-use the same water for tomorrow. I don’t want them out there if it gets too hot though.
I had real bad sunstroke when I was 17 just from sitting in the garden. I burned so badly that I couldn’t open my eyes. I don’t remember much as I was so ill. Thankfully Mum had plenty of calamine lotion. And I had to lie down with a damp flannel on my eyes. I recovered ok, but I’ve always been wary of the sun since then.
It’s pretty great for getting lots of washing dry though! My word of the week this week is Heatwave, come and join us with a weekly round-up.
Linking up to Rachel’s Sunday Snapshot.
Our dogs no different and tries to stay cool but can be found outside sunbathing at times. Afraid at my age I hate the heat so stay cool
It’s getting hotter as the day goes on. It was 26C this afternoon and it’s 31C now. Eek!
Cat’s have the right idea, finding a cool place and just staying there.
Stay safe over the next couple of days. x
Cats are so funny. My little cat is constantly trying to find a warm place around the house as our temps have been freezing! The other day I found her in the linen cupboard all snuggled up in the folded blankets. She gave me a fright when I opened the door to put some sheets away.
Under the table sounds perfect #MMBC
I’ve been staying in all weekend and it was my weekend off work but I don’t want to get burnt. I have to walk to work tomorrow as my husband has the car. I am not looking forward to that! Aww, they are hiding away from the sun too. My puppy has just been sleeping. Stopping by from the Monday blog hop over at Jaynes 🙂
My cat does the same. Loves the cool pavement when it in the shade. Then when the sun moves onto the patio, she moves into the garden shaded by plants. Thanks for sharing today.
Your cats are very wise! We moved the guinea pigs into the shade and gave them bottles of ice to use as a sort of reverse hot water bottle. We tried to keep Hetty inside as much as possible. She loves just sitting on the outdoor settee in the blazing sun!
Your sunstroke at 17 sounds horrendous. No wonder you’ve been wary of the sun since.
So very cute but I don’t envy animals wearing fur coats in the recent heat. Thanks for linking up and for sharing with #MySundaySnapshot.
