My Sunday Photo 17th February 2019

I have missed doing a Sunday photo for a couple of weeks. It was mainly because of illness and not being able to spend more than two minutes at a time at the computer.

We’ve not been out much and I don’t have any brilliant shots to share with you, but I wanted to share a photo of my Axolotl that I made. I put a photo of it on Instagram and Simply Crochet Magazine have asked if they can feature me on their ‘Show Us Yours’ page. It said I’ve been shortlisted, so I don’t actually know if it will appear yet, but it’s still exciting to know that something I have made has caught their attention.

Crochet

I first learnt to crochet over 30 years ago. I didn’t get the hang of it and the only thing I made, a baby jumper for my son, was a disaster. So I gave it up.

Then a couple of years ago I thought I’d try again. I kept seeing patterns for these little amigurumi critters and fell in love. So, I started again but soon found out that fiddly little stitches were not the best idea, especially with my failing eyesight. So, I made a blanket.

I’ve made several blankets, hats and scarfs since then and I love my crochet. It’s so relaxing and I love seeing something I’ve created looking good afterwards.

Axolotl

Then I saw a pattern for this axolotl and my little girl wanted me to make one. It was fiddly but I managed it and was happy with the results. So were my girls, I now have to make two more. I might try a lighter pink for the body, it’s supposed to be lighter but the wool I wanted was out of stock so I settled for something pinker. My daughter was okay about it, as she pointed out, axolotl can be quite pink.

I’ll just finish with the first axolotl we met at Hatton in 2017.

My Sunday Photo – 3rd December 2017

A pale pink axolotyl, which is a little like a salamander. This one is in his tank with red reeds and sitting on a bed of stones. He is pale pink in colour.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Last weekend we were at Hatton visiting the Enchanted Christmas Kingdom to see Father Christmas. We also had time to walk around the farm and one of the warmest places was in with the amphibians. Here you could find Star who just couldn’t tear herself away from this Axolotl. I thought it was a little weird looking with it’s pale pink flesh and gills and tiny lidless eyes. But Star could see it’s beauty and was totally captivated.
@lefthanded on Instagram kindly shared this rhyme from MAD magazine.

I’ve heard it said of Aristotle, he kept a pet: an axolotl, coloured green – a sort of mottle, in a kennel made of wattle. But its baby epiglotl couldn’t cope and made it throttle.

Google also tells me that if you have an Axolotl as a pet it will eat other aquatic animals and that they can grow up to 25cm and maybe even bigger. I think this one must have been nearly 25cm.
Have you ever seen an Axolotl? Do you think this one is beautiful?

A little Note About Positive Reviews on Raisie Bay

A little Note About Positive Reviews on Raisie Bay

Some people only write reviews when things go wrong with products, which is good because it lets people know that there could be potential problems. I’ve also seen negative feedback with say things like, I had to return this item because the colour did not suit me…is this useful?

I write reviews on most items I buy because I like to give genuine feedback. If I have a genuine problem with a product I will write my review in the appropriate place.

I write reviews on my blog too, but they are mostly positive. Why? Because I only write reviews for the things I’ve loved. If I don’t love them I let the person who sent me them know with details why and then let them decided if they would rather me write a negative review or not write one at all. It’s always the latter.

This is my blog, my place and I’ll let you know about the things I love. If you want to find out what other people have hated about the product then you will need to look elsewhere.

My reviews may all be positive, but they are still genuine.
