10 Things to Do in the Easter Holidays for All Ages

I love the Easter Holidays, but it can get a bit boring for the kids (And Adults) so I’ve put together a list of things to do during those two weeks off school. Or you could even do some of them over the holiday weekend if you are working. It would be nice to get away on holiday and that’s something I thought about this year, unfortunately, I have a busy month with hospital appointments so I couldn’t fit it in. I’ve tried to include activities for all ages, because most of my children are older now. We are definitely considering doing some of these though.

10 Things to do in the Easter Holidays.

1. Egg and Spoon Race

Have some fun inside or outside with an egg and spoon race. The rules are simple, competitors race with an egg (or egg shaped object) on a spoon. If the egg is dropped then you can choose the penalty, it can take time to pick up the egg and put it back on the spoon to carry on, or you can make them go back to the beginning. Either way, it’s encouragement to take the race carefully.

The game has been played for over a hundred years and it’s still used in a lot of school sports day events. If you don’t want to use real eggs you can buy plastic or wooden ones. You could even use wrapped chocolate eggs, like Cadbury’s Cream Eggs.

2. Plant Flowers

Get out in the garden, whether you are young or old. Children love to see things grow and whether you plant in pots or in a garden plot you will have plenty of fresh air and end up with something wonderful.

April is the time to plant half hardy flowers if you can put them under cover, or hardy annuals will survive outside or in.

You could plant some lovely lavender to brighten up your garden in the summer, or add a magical colourful carpet of flowers with Antirrhinum Seeds.

Maybe you could consider growing your own vegetables. Outdoors, sow carrots, peas, beetroot, winter cabbages, broccoli and salad crops.

3. Easter Crafts

I have a Pinterest board filled with Easter crafts and activities. My children are a little old now, but I still like to make a few things myself. I’ve crocheted a flower bunting to decorate my home but there are plenty of other things you can do.

You could make a beautiful Easter Wreath if you are feeling crafty enough. There are plenty to choose from here.

Or keep the kids occupied with some fun crafts. I always took my children out to The Works to find craft supplies and inspiration. And they are very reasonably priced.

4. Visit Cadbury World or Other local museum

Get out of the house and visit a museum. Cadbury World is great at Easter, so much fun for kids and adults. We are lucky to live very close to Bournville, the home of Cadbury World and we have visited many times. But if you can’t make it all the way to Birmingham then why not visit a local museum. Easter doesn’t have to be all about chocolate.

5. Join in Easter Egg Hunts at a National Trust Place

We have done the Easter trail at our local National Trust Place, Packwood House. If you are a NT member then entry is free, if not you will can pay on the gate. The Easter Trail costs a little extra to enter but it covers the cost of the Easter Egg the children receive for completing the trail. (no-one goes without.)

My children had so much fun following the clues all around the grounds in 2017. I had borrowed a motorised Scooter from the NT so I could follow them around. (It’s a bit tricky for wheelchairs.) It’s a truly fabulous day out, made even better if you get some sunshine. Do book in advance though.

6. Decorate an Easter Egg Tree

This is something I’ve not done yet, but I’m tempted to try it out this year. There are some great ideas on this blog post, but I’m thinking of going simple and here is my plan:

• I’ll get the kids to find me a nice twig and maybe give it a coat of paint
• I’ll use my vase and maybe choose a filler to make the twig stand (probably small stones)
• I will make some pom poms with my wool stash and maybe get the kids to help
• Then I’ll hang the pom poms on the branches…ta da! (I’ll let you know how it turns out.)

7. Bake Hot Cross Buns

Baking is always fun, whether you are an adult or a child. Hot Cross Buns are not the easiest to make but we make them often and even the kids have had a go. You can see how we got on here. Full recipe and photo instructions included.

8 Create a Gift Basket

You can let your imagination go wild with a gift basket and make them very personal. At Easter think about what the recipient would really like and buy your treats. You can make them for adults or children and choose chocolate or any kind of gifts that may be suitable. Here are a few ideas for all ages:

• Mini chocolate eggs
• chocolate bunnies
• soft toy bunnies
• stickers
• notebooks
• pen toppers
• glow sticks
• face masks
• bunny socks
• bunny eye masks
• bunny slippers

Basically anything at all Easter related, you could even go down the religious meaning of Easter and include things like a bible reading bookmark, a cross, a candle or faith stickers.

Just put all of your items in a box or basket and decorate with a bow and you are done. Fun to make and a joy to both give and receive.

Of course you could also choose to make a Chocolate Easter Gift Hamper from Cadburys, they come ready made or you can choose what to put in them.

9. Make an Easter Bonnet

Kid’s love to make Easter bonnets and we have made so many over the years. We have made our bonnets from scratch using cardboard from cereal packets and decorating them.

It’s even easier these days and you can pick up a ton of decorations from any shops that sell craft items from Hobby Craft to Poundland. The kids can then have fun sticking everything on.

10 Make Chocolate Recipes

You may think that having Easter Eggs is enough chocolate for Easter but it’s fun to make things with chocolate yourself. You can use a mould and make Easter shapes from melted chocolate or you can try some of my chocolate recipes.
